It's always very difficult to add performance to a car that is eating tyres in race trim, because it means there is something wrong in the behavior/characteristics of the car.
For example, a car that was famous for his terrible tyre wear was the SF 90. The chassis had tremendous amount of understeer that made the car slide in medium/high radius corner. This behaviour was terrible for tyre management. In fact in Hungary (which is full of these corners) Vettel and Leclerc were losing up to 1s from MB and RB.
Of course i don't know why the AM is very harsh on the tyres but Matteo Bobbi (Sky Italy) said that Aston Martin was seeing huge improvements with the upgrades on the wind tunnel / simulator that didn't translate to actual performance on track already last year. This is a huge issue that they need to fully understand and fix as fast as possible.
The sf90 won 3 races and achieved many podiums, Aston Martin if it gets a podium this year we have to celebrate. Many talk as if the Mercedes wind tunnel is poor, not understanding that it is the best of all f1. The rear suspension may be problematic, but it doesn't seem to me that Mercedes has tire wear problems. The problem lies solely with Aston Martin and they are making a mistake something in my opinion
