To be fair I hadn't seen that he got a tow when I made the comment, but even without that, a P3 in a weekend where they have been genuinely struggling to get the car working would be nothing to shrug off.
They did the same thing in Australia. McLaren started with lower df than RB and Ferrari right away, RB took it down and Ferrari kept it up and made a mistake. McLaren and Red Bull are now happy to run lower wings and softer springs on what previously were mid-high df tracks
AeroGimli.x

And they call it a stall. A STALL!

The best car on pole, as expected. Even if there are any tyre deg issues tomorrow, Imola is not an overtaking track
.
I would give more credit than usual to Max this time around. He was flying on that first sector.
.
It’s just the sadness being dumped on us. Yesterday it was still the “bad driver” but today it’s the “car” again. It is to be expected and endured. In the meantime we here can celebrate on of the best performances of all time. Matched both records for pole strings now. 8 in a row, 7 in a row from season start. Several of those against the odds!
.
Let it go @Sieper. The car wasn't the best car as @Vanja stated as always. Marko said the car is still very nervous with less fuel.
Perez could not handle that but Max could. The McLaren car is faster and better.

Just saw Oscar's onboard... He made some correction in last sector that lost him around a tenth or more. He lost pole there...
But Max got pole in the fastest car right?

Pretty much everyone was struggling in the last sector. Even Max ran a bit wide out of the last corner.
Max got pole today because of the slipstream he got from Hulk though. Without that, it likely would have been McL 1-2 and Max 3rd (although with miniscule gaps).

McLaren look like the best car, will require something special tomorrow to hold them off. Also given they looked consistent on the long run compared to RB. Usually the car is better in the race than quali but that wasn't the case in Miami, so this should be a very telling race.

If Oscar stays ahead of Norris then Max wins comfortably. But if Norris is ahead they can switch strategies... It's Two fast Mclarens against one redbull.

Hannah needs to bring her A game tomorrow.

It isn’t so simple, you then also go into the first turns at higher speed making them more difficult. Max’ interview with viaplay post qualy was quite open and honoust (as he always is) would be good to view for people interested.

Up against it, pole again, record equaling in a car that certainly offered no margins.

Perez can't handle any car. He is a bad reference. It was a good effort by Max, but it also has to be said that the car was definitely better than yesterday. Good job by the team in rectifying problems and putting it back together. Anytime when the difference between pole and second is under a tenth, it's a hard fought pole.

I'm expecting Oscar to get a 3 place grid drop, so it should be a Verstappen-Norris-Leclerc shootout. Track position will be important, you'll probably need a 2 second gap to protect from any undercut. More than anything I'm just interested in seeing their relative race pace. Both the Ferrari and McLaren looked really solid on their long runs, RB struggled a bit, but they've changed the set-up quite a lot since then. Traditionally RB would take a step up from quali pace to race pace, let's see if that holds true.

Don’t forget;

1 the start here. Always very tight.
2 DRS after lap 1. You are towing everybody along.

Mclaren best car today as I see it, but very close. Amazing lap by Verstappen, dissapointed with Perez...
