I have an inkling that Trulli sets his car up for a good qualifying lap at the expense of race pace. Ralf seems able to perform more consistently than Trulli in the races, with a number of quicker fastest laps as well.

It was not Trulli's fault, even Alonso said that marshals didn't use blue flags sufficiently which seams to be strange for BMMC.:?

Well I don't really think there is something like a "qualifying setup". Cars are driving with the same amount of fuel and the same tires, so there is no difference at all.

In my opinion it may only be down to two things:
1. Jarno Trulli is simply a really good qualifyer. I state my point by seeing how many times he outqualifyed Ralf
2. The Toyota is such an engine that they can afford to run it at very high RPM's during qualifying and maybe they turn it down a little bit for the race.

His engine was on its third race if you count the running it did in Indianapolis so i suspect that this would be the case Tomba.

I don't see it as Trulli spoilt a race. Yet again he hauled his car to somewhere it shouldn't be in qualifying. He's giving his team the best shot by starting higher up, good for him..........

He has certainly put Ralph in the shade.

About the 'qualifying setup' idea. Is it not possible that Trulli's car could be set up to be quick specifically for the qualifying conditions (track temperatures, wind, stiffer car...), and not work nearly so well on race day (the last few races have been significantly hotter on race-day than any other day in the weekend)?
The reason why I am pursuing this is that Williams we able to extract so much from their car in qualifying (2000 season). Admittedly, they had a qualifying engine, but does noone think there are setup options that could compromise race pace in favour of qualifying?
Trulli is truly dreadful in the races so there must be a reason!

I suppose we will never know for sure how much Trulli compromises his race to qualify.

I read that Ralph had harder tyres for Silverstone, this allowed him to race better.

Without looking back and checking; I seem to remember races this year where Trulli has outqualified Ralph and still stopped later for his first drink of fuel. I would suspect that fuel weight and tyre choice will be the items most likely to be "fiddled" with when guestimating the best balance between a good grid slot and a good fuel strategy in the race.

It seems to me that Jarno has consistently shaded Ralph in qually & race conditions, so even if his strategy is to chase a higher grid slot you could argue it's paying off.

Presently, Trulli is tied fourth in points with Reubens, behind Alonso, Raikkonen, Schumacher, and . Ralf is ninth in total points, at 23, 8 behind his teammate.
I consider that quite impressive, in fact. There's a lot of other drivers who were expected to be ahead of Trulli. For instance Button, Montoya, Fisichella, and Webber.

i think toyota was the second best team behind renault at the beginning of the season... but mclaren and renault and bar has moved on with their development and toyota is starting to fall behind in the development race.but im just puzzled with the difference between trullis qualifying performance and his race pace. if u remember at the beginning of the race.. even though he showed no treat in winning the race but he was able to match the leaders pace...

Well, at least Trulli paid millions, and we don't, so oh well
