McLaren MCL38

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

The top of the sidepod is relatively similar between the two, but the side profile is quite different, with McLaren having a more pronounced undercut and a thinner overall shape along its length from front to back.
Yes, and now this new intercooler installation begin to be problem for red bull (maybe). For me this new cooler layout in the red bull have more disadvantages than advantages.

Interesting that they have a witness mark of the plank towards the forward 3rd of the floor. Are they playing with tolerances to create some curvature, or maybe just some space for flex? Haven't ever seen that feature on a floor before.

hmm this is usually where the FLIR (infrared tyre sensors) are mounted...either they have found a way to work around the regs to turn this into a aero device or its a very fancy sensor mounting

ah, is just tape to cover.

Huge change in the endplate area much more attention to detail, looks like from my armchair, all in on outwash and creating a strong vortice through the cutouts

Red Bull has always had more or less the least amount of profiling in de elements.

We've seen teams experimenting with exremely profiled (especially 3rd and 4th) elements. Jaggered by Alpine, legaliteit Rod by Merc, notch by AM, AR have taken several cracks at it.

Now it seems everybody is converging also to this RedBull design element.

It is interesting not only how strongly the ends of the flaps are moved to the sides, but also that on the outer side of all planes it is visible that the profile is reduced in the longitudinal plane of the front wing. As if an additional opportunity for creating vortices.
