Ouch, that was hard to watch, there was only 3/100ths between Daniel and Yuki’s final runs, but Yuki got through SQ1 by the skin of his teeth.

SQ2 showed it wasn’t a fluke, the car is still slow. 😢 Yuki only got 14th due to Logan DNF’ing the session, and Daniel starts 16th.

Just watched the post race interviews, Yuki said his spin at the end of SQ1 damaged his car and compromised his performance.

Daniel seems like he was on the back foot from the start, as we expected, running a split setup in FP seems to have hurt his preparation.

“It’s a short lap here, so it’s always going to be tricky. We changed quite a lot from FP1, and we’re still trying to learn about the package, but obviously, it’s frustrating when you miss out by a small bit,”

Well that was an unsurprising, but disappointing sprint race. Both lads gained a place on track, but it was still a pointless race.

Edit: apparently Hulk got a 10 second penalty for forcing Fernando off track, so Daniel moved up to 14th just behind Yuki.

Wonder which fans went after Yuki!

verb
/rəˈtärd/

delay or hold back in terms of progress, development, or accomplishment.
"our progress was retarded by unforeseen difficulties"

Yuki was saying what a hold back, what a delay!!!!

Err.. ok, if that's what you want to believe. Clearly it means more than that (something close to "what a bunch of idiots"). Having said that, so what? It's still nothing particularly offensive, so the whole thing's retard^H^H^H idiotic. Nothing to be hauled up to the stewards for (assuming the above comments are accuarate).

Yuki is Japanese. the only way he would have learned or knew of the saying is because he learned it from someone who used it in such a way. blame the language for the term and the idiot who performed an act that earned such name calling.

1
dated, now offensive : affected by intellectual disability : intellectually disabled

Note: The term retarded is increasingly considered offensive. The use of intellectually disabled is now preferred over retarded in medical, educational, and regulatory contexts, as well as in general use.
2
informal + offensive : very stupid or foolish

It wouldn't make any difference if he said "what a f***ing intellectually disabled person", now would it.

Soon they won't even be allowed to say "what a freaking joke" because soon "freak" will have its connotations. for God's sake, kill these radio broadcasts from the public, the drivers and their team should not have their comments and strategies privy to distorting ears. Soon they will need to communicate with a cipher or codex sheesh.

He knows the colloqial meaning of what he's saying, As I said previously, so what? He called someone an idiot (more or less). We have lots and lots and lots (all?) drivers being bleeped out for saying f**k, and that's apparently fine. So, is there somethng more to why he was summonsed, otherwise it all makes no sense at all.

Edit: we (native English speakers) know what "retard" could mean, i.e. someone with learning disabilities etc, with negative connotations, but that's not the context of the way it was said. So the whole thing is a nonsense, there's common usage of "you're a retard" = "you're an idiot". You may be slightly more cautious these days, in that it might be seen as offensive for the reasons already mentioned, but hardly a fineable offense. Fine every drive who claims another is a "f**ing idiot", then.

This was the Australia race before he realized he can shout out without pressing the radio button. Remember before he hit the button when he wanted to blurt out. He now knows not to press the radio button.

Fact is some fans went out of their way to go back to that race and bring it up now. But it's all good, Yuki is a better person for it.

👍 but no need for that. He's no native-English speaker and even if he was .....

Oh that’s brutal! Seems like an over reaction from the stewards, other drivers have said a lot worse things over the years.

Back to the qualifying, it was great to see the changes after the sprint race worked.

I thought after Q1 that both lads would get through to Q3, but it wasn’t to be. Daniel missed out by 1/100th of a second and Yuki by 2/10ths. 😢

Still, progress is progress. 😎

VCARB was the most improved team between 2023 and 2024 at Austria. It’s progress.
