Mercedes W15

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

So that rumoured large upgrade hasn't manifested itself based on that.

Interesting. They're dumping drag and considering the possibility of using their smallest wing. Maybe they're trying to find a different advantage because the car doesn't produce enough downforce?

For me it looks that the mercedes sucks considerabley more dirt from the track with his underbody on this track than the other cars (or it is abrasion from his own body).
Also, is there a new bulge on top of the nose (where the start number is) or was it always there?
I’m told it’s for driver cooling, part of the extra adaptations off the back of the Qatar race fiasco last year. It’s in for this weekend but they’ve kept it closed off for whatever reason, maybe they open it up for tomorrow
They're still running this hump this weekend when it's cool so I don't think it's driver cooling.

I think it's a suspension hardware change, but it will be a while until we see underneath.

I read somewhere teams were keen to add the allowed hump as it added benefits. If it is allowed there and can be blocked, they'l keep it.

If it is trivial. They probably don't bother manuafacturing a clean panel and just fabricate the plug.

Think of it more as “bringing updates to every race”…

Not sure when you first noticed the hump but Mark Hughes says Merc introduced a new horizontal mass damper in Austria so could be that?

‘bigger, more powerful horizontal damper at the front.’

Mark Huges is not the man for technical updates. He tries but always makes a mess of it. He is more in the Peter Windsor vein; great at writing the more human side of the story. Actually Peter windsor can be technical but more to do with driving techniques.

Motorsport.com Italia is not the most reputable of sources but i just read through Giogio Piola saw Mercedes allegedly trying to hide the content inside the hump https://imagizer.imageshack.com/img924/5537/Lc8DXw.png

I saw a picture of it exposed on x earlier ..it’s a “3rd element” that connects both sides of the suspension
