Still, the decision is weird. Verstappen will get us at the end of the race, and mediums won't last enough to get past Lewis.

Sainz's mediums are 7 laps fresher than Leclerc's. I wouldn't be surprised if Leclerc ends up losing the position he gained at the start to Sainz.

I can see the choice to pit Charles, get track position to Max, though hindsight is great if they pitted him a lap earlier… could’ve jumped Lewis too. Don’t see Charles getting past Lewis as I don’t see the mediums lasting compared to the hards… more likely Max getting past the both of them.

Going longer would’ve just put him behind Max and Lewis still, so not much change…

A quiet race for Sainz… maybe a cheeky pit stop towards the end to snag the fastest lap, though Perez is now flying.

Nope it was not because Lewis was going to pit having a set of hard tyres and therefore unleash Verstappen who had much better pace.

Lewis was compromised by his early pit stop and therefore vulnerable.

Not an option to overtake Lewis on the track, watch Max, the only chance is through overcut or better yet pit.
What would have changed without that early pitstop? Charles was also behind Ham and Max. So the risk was well worth it, but unlucky Merc was responded.
