I feel like the value of Newey is not only his experience in high functioning teams, but his technical contribution from very early days where most of the car is conceptual, and he helps guide on what are the most important aspects of vehicle design.

Agreed. He has so much experience. He was around when underbody downforce was last around in F1 so he knew the importance of stable platform over peak downforce figures immediately. Although, most people will focus on Newey and if he can take AM to the top, I think Honda plays a bigger role in their results for at least first 2 seasons of the new ruleset.

Yes, from "those days" one person usually did the whole car, so he would be more versed with interacting "parts" than many modern designers who specialise in one area and other areas are more or less boxes that align with their own
When arguing with a fool, be sure the other person is not doing the same thing.

I think part of the issue with some is they take offense that Newey may not be the lead designer these days. And thing is he doesn't have to be, be may only add his few % but he maybe great at filtering ideas pros and cons, when something goes wrong maybe he is very good at identifying the issue. So even if he isn't behind the core concept he can still be critical in troubleshooting a lot of the very fine details.

So much about the ego of Newey:

Don't think that Fallows already knew in 2023 that Newey will join the team...
It's possible that both can be true. The negative stories from those disgruntled at being fired from Red Bull Racing, with Newey having gone through and removed those that didn't fit with his vision for reshaping Jaguar F1 in 2007-2008, and the positive stories from more favourite colleagues? :?: :)

I do wonder whether Red Bull would be struggling as much now (struggling being a relative term of course) if they still had Newey to call on.
If I come across as blunt, I apologise, it's my ASD. Sometimes, like an F1 car aqua-planing, it gets out of my control.

Managing Technical Partner, shareholder, overlord. I can't think how bad it will be with Stroll Sr if they don't win titles in 26...
And they call it a stall. A STALL!

I get the feeling he would be quicker to identify and fix the issues. I think they will likely figure it out but no where near as quickly without his troubleshooting

Sky Sports News understands that Newey will earn a basic salary of £20m, rising to £30m with bonuses at Aston Martin.

It's one of those workplace situations where someone has designed a great system that's unfortunately quite complex and only they can understand it properly. With a pinch of salt of course, because F1 cars are designed by very large teams. But the overall concept that Newey has followed (e.g. V-shaped chassis, tight packaging, inherent instability over bumps) are something he's carried over 30 years. And it would make sense that he's more adept at identifying problems related to his concepts.

The exactly same could be said about Ferrari.

And still noone got fired after the bad 2024 season so far at AMR. Not Krack, not Fallows, noone.

£20m?

It was worth that to any top team just to cause the disruption/downfall at Redbull.
