Saw this in a reddit post, Charles is throwing down the gauntlet
I’m not disappointed about Adrian’s choice, because we talked with him and we tried. He made his choice and I respect it, everyone is free to make the choice they want. He considered aston martin the better choice, to me ferrari remains the number 1 team, too bad for adrian. I believe more in the group than the individual and we have a lot of super talented people. I’m sure that this is the winning team, fred is doing an extraordinary job and creating the base for next years.

We will do everything to prove Adrian that he made a mistake to not come to Ferrari.

Can the argument not be made the Mcl were better on pace as they used their tires more. I agree though we won't know the car until we run in Austin. If we can hold our own in Baku and Singapore and if the new FW in Austin gives a similar boost as Mcl in Miami it could be a strong finish to the year.
It is a fair argument, feel like Charles would've taken Lando both on 1 stoppers.

Piastri still had a solid lead and was more or less on pace with Charles, he could have survived but maybe not.
Piastri had gone from pulling several tenths a lap on Leclerc to being roughly even to losing a tenth or so per lap in the last 7 or 8 laps of his first hard stint. I think he would have had a very hard time keeping P1, but at least he wouldn't have given it away.

Yeah Piastri had definitely lost his edge when he pitted, it's doubtful wether he would keep ahead, but with the hindsight that he didn't catch Charles with the extra stop...
And Mclaren would've finished 2-3 anyways at worst.

Well... at least it happened in FP1 and not in qualifying or the race

Looks like a fair bit of damage though, I feel sorry for the team. Will things be ready for FP2?

Edit: Nevermind, seems to look visually worse than it actually is.

When they showed the replay I realized the initial impact looks worse than it actually is. I'm not too worried, the loss of running time sucks but hopefully this just means he found the limit early in the weekend.

What's even more crazy is the McLaren team drama is so "juicy", the commentators on F1TV barely mentioned Leclerc and instantly went back to talking about the papaya rules

Leclerc was really fast with the mediums. He was pushing hard and the crash was unfortunate but I think he would have been close to Max had they set laptimes close to each other in terms of timing, because there is a lot of track evolution going on here.

Either way, it's just FP1, the most unrepresentative session generally, but especially on street circuits which take a while to rubber in.

According to the multiviewer sector times... Leclerc's medium times are holding up very well and Sainz is on pace in S1. Far off pace in S3 however.

Difficult session to gauge because of the 3 red flags and losing 1 car but things look positive to me relative to Red Bull. (Ignoring McLaren since their FP1s are usually irrelevant)

Don't understand why he didn't go for the escape route... He didn't expect that lock up, strange

no, three red flags, so there wasn't much time. From the top teams, only Norris did a couple of laps on high fuel.

They didn't fix the car correctly for FP2.

Terrible.
