Russell's possibly getting a grid penalty, so max could end up starting p5 behind Perez. Not bad if they can invert the positions early
Whats the reason for Russell penalty?
Alleged failing to slow under yellows in Q1

Max got grid drop for that in Qatar 2021.

we should see the episode, they can wrap a good excuse to convert a penalty in a reprimand only, let's wait and see

I'm not sure P5 is a good starting spot. It puts you on the outside line for T1 and T2. Very dangerous place. P6 was better. Russell drop might just allow Hamilton the inside run on Verstappen instead whereas previously Verstappen would have had the inside run on Russell.

Russell wont be able to defend down that straight with no DRS.

Perez can give him the DRS.

Max will clear Russell very quickly tomorrow, by the end of 1st stint at the latest. I expect Perez will then let him through, but probably Max could take him on his own. If he can keep up with Sainz from then on and I think he can, he'll be an easy podium contender. Red Bull won't miss a chance to maximise points after another unforced error gift from Lando
And they call it a stall. A STALL!

Id imagine that any car that doesnt have DRS will be overtook quite easily tomorrow.

DRS zone has been lengthened hasnt it?

Yes, 100m longer than last year. Worked very well in Monza, +50% more overtakes on main straight

Be no problem with overtakes then.
Red Bull were about on par with everyone else above them in qualifying, lec and pia, so nothing to worry about with the RBR being slow on the straight.

Exactly. I expect Russell to struggle with T16 exit after a few laps and Max will take him then at the latest.

if RUS is the meat in that DRS sandwich, it is going to take only one lap to remain like that. 2km straight is going to be a breeze for the low-DF Mercedes to get past a high-DF Redbull that is ahead without DRS for itself.

"I would rather just put it back [to the previous setup]. But that's not possible now. I'm bummed out that I went in that direction, normally it can be positive, only on a bumpy street circuit it's just too extreme.

You can't change anything about it now, so you have to make the best of it and hope it's a bit better at the beginning with more fuel. After that you drive the tank empty and the problem is bound to come back. We'll see."

amazing

I repeat, target is to arrive ahead of Norris, everything more is just a bonus
This is exactly what I wrote before qualy, that why didn't they try the Perez setup in FP3? Why start qualy.blindly on new setup?

It's the race pace that is important. Nothing else matters. They are still experimenting with the car to give a direction for Austin.
