Well, they have 2-1/2 hours to try to get things to the best place possible.

Fingers crossed it’s partially temp/setup related and they’ll come alive again during qualifying.

I also suspect the (now classic) pirelli lottery is potentially at play, too; it’s almost as if these tires are engineered to be a coin flip. Not sure whether it was a bad set of softs, but either way, tire temp is likely to be involved.

Why did they do an extra lap on mediums? The drivers didn't get to finish tweaking their setups because they ran out of time...

Thinks so. Probably because of overheating.

I wonder if they made significant changes compared to yesterday where Leclerc was quite happy

Anthony Davidson suggested Sainz car was heavy when we watched his lap. I also never got to see if they were new softs, got the impression they were on a used set.

Sainz on new softs.
Leclerc on new softs.

Confirmed by checking F1TV onboards (they exited pits about 13 minutes before end of session).

To be fair that was the first time (that I remember) seeing a car alter tire pressures like that on the pits. I always assumed the pressures would be altered by a Pirelli delegate inside the garage before the tires are put on the car.

Exactly. Again what the hell are they doing?

This was a surprise to me as well. Pirelli mandates tire pressures, how can you control what the mechanics do?

Bryan : "front wing?"

Charles : "We can, but I just have no grip. Let's do +4 to try."

Bryan : "Copy, yeah, we try something."

Charles : "Can we get into the garage just to try something very quickly?"

+4 is not as bad as +6 ?

Very weird lap comparison for Leclerc's FP2 and FP3 laps. Better top speed and overall acceleration (higher PU mode) and some corners are quicker and some are taken with the same apex speed as FP2 lap. Yet no substantial lap time improvement, 2 tenths were all on PU mode basically. Something was very wrong with tyres, braking was also poor on several occasions, quite poor grip on acceleration and braking

And they call it a stall. A STALL!

Could they have gone with a setup that was leaning a lot more to a 1 stop race? That's why there is more understeer in the car to protect the rears from over heating? Maybe they'll revert to their setup from Friday to optimise quali
