Maybe Newey and Cardille won't give us a competitive car from the beginning, but I'm sure they will see the problem we can't see right now. The main problem has been not modifying the front suspension. When you modify your front wing, the flow that is channeled through the front suspension changes, yet we have not modified it anything this year. Newey and Cardille can help with the suspension, I don't believe 2025 is already lost. The team hasn't got a clue what they need to fix, but by running different part specs at least they are gathering tons of data that will help Newey/Cardille understand the car and its mistakes.
They did find their way at the beginning of the 2024 year with the upgrades from the 2023. It's the in year stuff they struggle with.
Apart from 2022 where their in season upgrades worked really well (from a very low baseline...sure). Honestly, this team is a mindf**k. It's like trying decipher whats going onin Tenet.

I think this is a different era to the previous Newey eras. Teams have scaled up massively. I expect him to have an important input but the buck stops at important. Others will also have to do their own heavy lifting.

Alonso has Auston Spec Sidpods.

First 2 laps are to put 1 lap on 1 Medium and 1 hard brand new tires, then take them off.

Looks like getting out of Q1 might be challenging. Could potentially beat the Saubers and Alpines, but who else...?

They did a 1:18.7 last year in Quali. They've already done a 1:17.7 in FP3 this year. He did it with atleast a few laps of fuel still onboard and not Fresh tires. He was .6 faster in S1 and S2 with Fresh tires than his fastest lap. Alonso over shot turn 12 when the tires were fresh. Otherwise he would have done a 1:17.2##.

Yes. It's not accurate to say that they didn't improve the car. They did. Others improved more... That's the pity.

Anyway, this year is so strange... Usually, the fastest car in the first race remains the fastest for all the season (more or less). This year, this changes much more... Several teams can win a race. I guess this year is an exception, though. But the fact is that all the teams are being able to introduce updates.

This Q1 is confusing so far. Did Perez mess up since both Fernando and Lance are faster in the first run? Or used vs new tires?

And on the second run they both went faster than the Williams cars too.

Then Gasly goes second. This is all over the place, lol.

Piastri and Perez are going out here, I think. This is crazy.

Alonso happened to be on a cooldown lap in the last part of Ocons run that could have kicked Stroll out.

That must be the 3rd or 4th time this year Alonso was screwed by going out so late. If only there was a solution...

The sad thing is that this is seen as a positive. Red flags don't matter, sometimes they benefit you sometimes they don't, what matters is the car is still crap.

yeah, they used all three sets in Q1. Tsunoda's crash probably didn't make much of a difference.
