That was almost certainly a car issue. Cars don’t do that.

But parking it in the gravel is stupidity

That is true, assuming he did it on purpose and that his steering wasn’t broken/rear axle wasn’t locked.

In such a situation, the lead car is the de-facto safety car.

So he should have a penalty for this really..
