Mercedes could be quite competitive here this race.

If there's one thing that demonstrates higher download, then cooler conditions and the ability of the platform to flex the tire carcass confirms that data. Their problem will, as usual, being able to maintain control of that accumulated load while taking the rear tire into it's bounce frequency. If they can avoid that aspect, they'll be fast off the bat.

We're soon going to see the competitive order, and how the recent "clarifications " of technical aspect play out.

Probably will be close within top 10 position.

Charles Leclerc: "McLaren has often said this (drivers saying Ferrari are favourite), it's not the first time they say maybe that Red Bull will be the favourite and then in the end they are the fastest."

So far, it looks like Ferrari are the fastest in race trim, but unable to turn on the softs. Should make an interesting race, if it stays like this.

Seems like a relatively easy Ferrari 1-2 just like COTA. Merc is good on 1 lap, but their race pace isn't that great.

McLaren had issues with graining in the long run, but looks like all teams expect to mainly run the hards in the race anyway. And no one tested those so far.

Ferrari and Mclaren look properly quick.
Mercedes.. let's wait until quali, I think they are the only ones who ran 'full' engine mode on Friday.
RedBull - I don't understand what they are doing, with that chop-shop rear wing (which has a history of failing miserably in Spa/Monza - I can't believe they don't have a proper low DF rear wing. Did all those Perez crashes break the budget limit?)

On ORF Toto Wolff basically said that he expects Mercedes to drop back tomorrow. They would always be strong on a cold and green track, but with the grip kicking in, they'd usually start to struggle much more than others. Same as when it gets warmer (although not the case here), leading to overheating at the rear.

So they're all the way back to 2013 issues, then.

They've had a car that has trouble warming its tyres AND a car that struggles with overheating them within the same regulation set.

They surely should have a handle on it by now or at least know what direction to go in.

It's Merc and 7 other teams who are struggling so it's clearly a very difficult problem.

Tires left:

Let's see if someone will try hards in FP3. Usually graining is less of an issue on those, but not testing them at all could still lead to some surprises in the race, I guess.

Car literally parks in front of the opening and they still need 5+ minutes with a red flag to clear it.
There has to be a better way.
