Perez seem to be on pace with Max which is an outlier by itself.
It looks worse than previous races, they destroyed their mediums in like 5 laps, while others are improving on softs at 5+ laps. But let's wait until qualy.

mm...I wouldn't go so far as that; this track is almost entirely defined by the car, there isn't much the driver can contribute, since there aren't any meaningful corners (maybe T10-T11) that can bring out the skill differences (for example if we take other high speed tracks like Spa or Monza we have corners like Parabolica or Pouhon where driver skill can make a difference)

There are several corners where you can crash the car. Maybe arrogance? After having (probably) the best F1 car in history, the maybe decided that it was not needed and they had enough over the compitition to get away with it. Keep in mind that there is months in between the CFD fase and production of parts, let alone the timespan between discision making and having parts ready. Very likely this decision was made early in the year when RB was still sweeping up the field.
