Had a look at the onboards, car is semi-decent in corners but still atrocious on straights. I don't see how Max can move up the order on track, maybe trough strategy but still a long shot. He'll have his hand full with Mclarens and Hamilton.
moving up the order ? No chance. Even if he makes 2-3 places in the opening lap chaos, Max will eventually filter down to P6, behind Russel, the two Ferraris and the two Mclarens. Then on, it's a waiting game for Hamilton to appear and breeze past. With what they have come up with for this track, the long straight into T14 is 'un-defendable' and 'un-overtakeable'. That wing flap => DRS is going to be a joke with no meaningful speed delta. I will be happy if he finishes P7 (for which he will have his fight cut out with Gasly and the two Haases) which looks like the 'par' position for this avatar of the RB20.

Bleak situation.

Even if Max finishes 6th, Lando would need to finish 4th to keep the WDC fight alive.

26points in Dubai
26points plus 8 in Qatar

That's 60points available in last 2 races if Lando wins and does fastest lap.

62points difference now, so Lando needs 63points to win.

So Lando HAS to outscore Max by 3points or more this weekend.

Max P8 means Lando has to finish 6th or above Or 7th with fastest lap
Max P7 means Lando has to finish 5th or above
Max P6 means Lando has to finish 5th with fastest lap
Max P5 means Lando has to finish 4th with fastest lap

Realistically put, I don't think Max is passing the Ferrari's today. Or george Russell. Gasly I imagine will drop behind Max. Then its a case of if the Mclarens getting past. Anything higher than 6th ill take quite nicely.
I think can rule out Lando taking any fastest laps here this weekend. Someone will take it away from him.

Max has a realistic shot at P3 tomorrow, Russell has a parachute on straights compared to top 3 cars. Gasly's going backwards after a great Q, Alpine's been set up this way for a while now

And they call it a stall. A STALL!

Max is going to be a passenger tomorrow. Hamilton will definitely be ahead. The Mclarens will also be ahead when they switch to the hard tire. Max will have no grip on the hard tire. They may end up fighting with Gasly and the Haas cars for P7.

"Fifth place is not ideal, but on the other hand, we are ahead of McLaren, which I think is most important for the championship. We are obviously driving our own race, of course. We'll see how it goes with the tyres because so far, the long runs on mediums have not been a success," Verstappen said.

After quali, Max was looking at the scoreboard and was disappointed. Norris was behind him. He really just doesn't want to win a championship. He wants to win every race.

Thats always been Max though. He wants to be the top man in everything does. Thats part of the reason why he's so good. Its in his blood.

I think the most realistic scenario in which Max wins the title is the one in which he and Lando finish 4 and 5, in whatever order. Not sure he will be able to overtake Russell, let alone the Ferraris.

Max pr Lando for 3rd. I don't see all the Max pessimism.

Surely that is super optimistic.

A PR (personal record) even. Max doesn’t need a pr person, he has you.

We will finish where we finish. But taking the WDC in a sprint race would be a bit anti-climatic. I mean it would be a world's first.

It would also be cool to see this...

Be cruel to Lando, but imagine the photo's you'd get. (I think Max would need to speak to Lando before doing that one!)

Max will never do that. Not once has he said “still we rise”. Like f.e. Lando jokingly did “simply lovely” in Zandvoort. People always like to break max down to the ground but I feel that is undeserved.

World's second.
