Both drivers did the best of what their abilities allowed. Norris in his McLaren wasn't even pushing that much, the car had so much pace, he was just managing , not crashing was his only concern.
LeClerc's opening lap was amazing and for Sainz, it was like the sea parting for Moses on turn1 with Piastri and Verstappen spinning outwards to either side. Both of them survived and enhanced on lap1, can't ask for anything better.
I am really happy to see how LeClerc was not giving up and got disappointed only when he found out about the large gap to Norris towards the end. In fact, he was disconsolate after the race, not being able to smile. That says a lot. He is a true Tifosi. Ferrari should never let him go. What I liked most, however, was the way he responded in the post race interview :
Rosberg : how excited are you about Hamilton as team mate, the greatest ?
LeClec : fine, it was an amazing partnership with Sainz, sad to see him go..<rattles for 2 mins about their 4 yr partnership>
He completely ignored the irrelevant question and talked about the relevant stuff. Despite all their ego battles on and off track, leClerc is totally unhappy about Ferrari letting Sainz go, and doesn't want Hamilton there. I could read it in his eyes.
However, the most irksome sight for me was how podium less Hamilton was doing donuts because it was his last day at work with his team, whilst a P2 podium Sainz didn't get the same previlege. Why ?
