I watched the post race show on F1TV, for some odd reason, Buxton seemed to annoint Oscar as McLaren's title contender, I'm wondering if I misheard things.
Yes, Buxton pulled another one out of his ... with that one. It was clearly visible that the others where stunned (in a bad way) with his reasoning. They were literally out of words!

I too wanted the WCC more than the WDC this year. It is kind of a vindication for 1999, 2007 and 2008.

And 2005... MP4-20... Brilliant... Merc Engine Lost us Both Titles...

Wow! WCC!!! I have to admit, this is the title I wanted more out of the two. But hoping for double delight in 2025. I watched the post race show on F1TV, for some odd reason, Buxton seemed to annoint Oscar as McLaren's title contender, I'm wondering if I misheard things.
In 2018, Zak said the team were on a 5 year plan to get back to challenging for titles, so if you take out the 1 year of Covid, that lead to an extra year of stability and more or less no development, they were pretty much on schedule. It's more remarkable after the 2022/23 issues with the car. Most likely, without a change in the status quo, they wouldn't be World Constructors Champions for 2024. Well done to all involved in this incredible resurgence.
This is a great article with/ about Zak

Quick question guys- what’s it worth financially to win the Constructors Championship?
There will be a bit extra in prize money (about 30m more than last year) and then likely some bonus payments from sponsors. We'll also be able to get better sponsors and charge more

I don't think we can complain about the lack of good sponsors.

Nice videos highlighting McLarens progress and the partnership they have with Mercedes being able to have input on the power unit basically having a semi works deal

A bit late, took bit of a break from this forum... but congrats everyone! It was a long and hard season, glad it paid off.

Feels like it was just yesterday we were complaining about the front end of car every race

Good video but surprised there was no mention of the new infrastructure or technical personnel

2 race weekends each week for the next 12 weeks to replay the highs and lows...and obvious highs all over again.

Pray that the team doesn't mess up the car and starts the season strong!

The worst thing can happen is us having more development time for 2026 but I don't think this will happen, what happen to us in 2012/2013 is what is happening to RBR right now. Few key people left, the team divided in separate groups within, basically a civil war that hampered the car development and the rest is history.

There is always going to be those for are for or against a ‘brave design’ in 2025.

Some think the MCL38 is at a development ceiling- maybe the team do too?

Some think it’s a risk.

I think we should have confidence in what ever the team chooses, they have had a good understanding of the development we have seen trackside over the past 18 months or so and they are championship winning team for it too which we can never take away from them.

This McLaren team is certainly a different team compared to the 2012/13 team.
