Where is the RB21? Every year it's like trying to see bigfoot...

There has been a change in the testing schedule for Verstappen and Lawson

Verstappen will now do Wednesday afternoon and all day Friday

Lawson wednesday morning + all day Thursday
It might be a strategic change due to the weather forecast.

From the Aston Martin team thread . . .

It seems like they've simplified the ideas and are aiming for a predictable base car, upon which they can rapidly build in the early part of the season.

I like the philosophy personally: the rb20 was a brand new concept and they hardly got to develop it at all considering they went in the wrong direction, so it makes sense to continue with many of the same/similar ideas in the 2nd year IMO.

Mercedes also adopting the red bull shark mouth+ vertical inlet also gives me some confidence (maybe misplaced) despite also presumably evaluating the podwing ideas Ferrari/McLaren have gone for. So red bull aren't striking out on their own.

Personally I expect the car to be 2-3 tenths off at the first few races, maybe even 4th fastest, but I'm not feeling pessimistic about the season as a whole

Is this sandbagging or the actual car, I can't tell. Doesn't even look changed enough to be an RB20B.

Lawson's filming day reaction, via Autoracer:
“First impressions are good, it’s always exciting to get in the car for the first time. For me, I’ve never started a full season in Formula One , so the preparations and days like this Filming Day are good for me. We’re also learning about a new car and so far the RB21 is performing well; the next few days of testing will be useful. I’m looking forward to going racing, having a full pre-season with a team and learning along the way.” Lawson immediately framed the constructors’ title as the goal of his work at Red Bull for this 2025. “This is not a new team for me. I already knew so many people here and I’m very excited to be working with such a talented group. My goal, simply, is to be fast and to be where the team needs me. The goal is to regain the Constructors’ Championship this year and if we can achieve that, it means I’m doing my part. Collectively all our goals are the same and that is to be as far forward as possible.”
Verstappen was much more guarded, not sounding nearly as positive:
“It’s nice to be back on track in Bahrain for Filming Day before we start testing. It’s really nice to be back driving again and get into the RB21 for the first time,” said the reigning world champion. “I did a few laps, but today was more about getting to grips with the car , seeing how it adapts and then we’ll learn more about the car over the next few days. We know what the limitations were last year, so it’s important to evaluate the pace over the next few days and see if we’ve improved.” The Dutchman is therefore preparing for a busy three days, before flying to Australia for the first round of the long 2025 calendar. “We don’t have much time before the first race so, during testing, we hope to get a lot of mileage on the car and a lot of laps to understand where we can find the time. I don’t have any targets for the season at the moment because we don’t know how competitive we are, but I’m looking forward to getting back to racing in general, especially Spa and Zandvoort, which are my favourite tracks on the calendar.”

I think Verstappen is just being realistic. He won't know much until they get into testing and see if they've improved in the areas they had issues last year.

This is what Max said in 2023

"I've just driven the RB19 for the first time, and of course it was a filming day, but it was a good first impression, everything went really well, really smooth so it is exactly what you want from a day like this and now I am very excited to go to Bahrain [for pre-season testing and the first race]." #-o #-o

I really don't like the line "a lot of laps to understand where we can find the time"

Doesn't matter how good the car is, you still want practice time to be able to 'find the time' and maximize things.

Autoracer had it in Italian, who may have translated it from English/Dutch.

So here's the racingnews365 quote in English which is possibly only translated once or not at all

He says "find time" rather than "find the time" which is a crucial difference I feel

My apologies for that
