I guess its not comparable with Leclerc then because Leclerc is barely breaking the 35s so far in his second stint.

But he might be having some slow first laps, lets see how the entire stint will look.

What will you say if Lando does 57 laps total?

It could be that Ferrari is on lower engine modes but I'd say that McLaren has good pace.

Lec also got traffic initially behind the sauber

Traffic wasnt a relevant factor for leclerc, I was following the trackmap. Based on this racerun so far, Lando seems to be about 0.3-0.4s faster. I would be really surprised if that turns out to be the actual gap though.

Quite competitive run nonetheless for Lando. I think Mercedes with Antonelli tried to replicate the same run as Merc and Ferrari, but they are a good chunk behind based on laptimes.

The MCL39 looks quite easy to drive to be honest. Balance looking neutral, traction looks good. And the laptimes are really good compared to last year!

Agreed, and very low degradation as well with the laptimes coming in easy. Leclerc tried to push it and got a 34.2 on the second stint (still 2 tenths shy of Lando’s fastest 2nd stint time), but he then dropped off quite harshly after and couldn’t replicate that laptime again.

That's more than 2s faster than actually race leader last year. McLaren have delivered big!

Seems like the car has retained the ability of getting really fast on the last stint. Those consecutive 32s are also quite impressive. Let’s see if Leclerc will be able to replicate it. He is starting similar with 35.5 - 35.8 and then 35.7

Thanks for posting the laptimes! It is appreciated.

Interestingly both the first and third stint have negative splits, while in the second stint the split remains neutral. Bodes well for the tyre degradation on the MCL39. But curious to see if other cars do have the same pattern as it can also be due to the Pirelli rubber of course.
