monza beeing one of the regular test circuits.. anyone got the best times of different teams/drivers testing this season in monza?

Knowing Monza setup it is obvious that they were used for more downforce.

I see that almost everyone are running a LOT of laps. Very serious testing going on at Monza.

I wonder what that thing is on the McLaren... above the bargeboard to the top left of the siemens logo.

Probably some measuring device for testing i assume, or maybe I'm wrong?

Any ideas?

It’s, probably, an IR camera to monitor the tyre temp distribution, there’s another one, for the rear tyre, under the K of Kimi, here you can see them both a bit better :

McLaren uses them since a couple of years at least.

Talking about “strange” devices, Nico Rosberg Wednesday was testing with what looks like the same radar FIA asked the teams to test a few years back :

Perhaps that is ECM device that jams ignition on Ralf's Toyota when it gets near and saves this car from collision

Judging by his “creative” lines on the track I can’t imagine something more necessary

RADAR : Pile-ups due to low visibility could be prevented by radar systems. The system currently being discussed within the FIA would transmit an electronic warning signal if there was another car directly in front of the driver.

maybe, hopefully, it’s just one of these things FIA does to make F1 look like “research applicable to every day driving” and will never be actually adopted. I do remember they already tested it few years ago, it seems to me it was on the Ferrari at the time but I’m not sure.

Yes, Wednesday morning De La Rosa and Wurz where driving cars with, respectively, Kimi and JPM stickers, then the official drivers used the same cars the afternoon.

do u think that because of the characteristics of monza there will be less or more reliance for tyre grip?

Monza = power
Even with the newer chicanes that totally changed the characteristics of this great track, it's all about power.
But then again, it's always nice to have as much tire grip and longevity as possible. But to be competitive, you have to have gobs and gobs of power.

Monza is power circuit all right, but how do you brake and accellerate out of those chicanes? its as much about grip. Top speed is important, but almost as much so is the speed in which you reach it (i.e accelleration).
