Complete. Really positive first two sessions. The jump from 2024 is a credit to the technical team especially considering the shift in front suspension. Whether Ferrari are able to challenge this weekend, minimizing any point loss will be big as they learn more about the new set up.
Agreed. I was watching the sector times of Leclerc against the two McLarens and they were trading back and forth but the 20.8 is impressive. I think those three cars (Hamilton was a little slower but possibly has more to come as he settles in) look right in the same ballpark in race and quali pace. Encouraging also that Ferrari seem to be doing this with a little higher downforce setting because that’s a configuration that is likely to be beneficial in a wet race but doesn’t seem to be giving too much away if it remains dry.SoulPancake13 wrote: ↑14 Mar 2025, 08:02Charles hit a 1.20.8 after letting Max go up the track. I am tired of pretending this isn't a strong car - they are in the fight for a win here to me.ScuderiaLeo wrote: ↑14 Mar 2025, 08:01SoulPancake13 wrote: ↑14 Mar 2025, 07:57This race sim from Charles is mighty, before hitting traffic (aka Max) the times were crazy, he hit a 1.21.2
Looks very close so far! But I doubt either team is showing their full hand, so we'll just have to wait and see how it unfolds tomorrow...![]()
Hamilton's just dealing with things being new to him and having to get used to them but seems to be enjoying himself
https://www.bbc.com/sport/formula1/arti ... l0521r4kko"I'm still getting used to the set-up changes," Hamilton said. "I don't have them on call like I used to have at Mercedes because I'd been there so long. I knew exactly all the changes.
"I'm still working through understanding what tools we can use. And it's interesting because you can see with Charles he just knows because he has been here such a long time. I am slowly piecing all the bits of the puzzle together."
"Long run was competitive with the others as well," Hamilton said. "McLaren look pretty quick. Looks pretty close up top. It's just generally been a fun day just to be here in red has been awesome."
2021-like aero efficiency + Mercedes engine is a potentially deadly combination. The McL that year was nearly impossible to overtake, I hope Ferrari are playing games with the engine modesdeadhead wrote: ↑14 Mar 2025, 08:29"Even in race pace regime #Ferrari very slow as top speed compared to #McLaren , look at the numbers above of #Leclerc vs #Norris on track together with an almost equal time. It seems due to the sum of engine and load. Ferrari seems to start from a very slow intro to then grow up to the times McLaren, which however has a less conservative pace at the beginning of the stint. #AustralianGP"
That’s debatable. The difference seen in fp1 has nothing to do with aero for the high speed, aero really kicks in past 240kph and grows towards 300kph, Ferrari was just not pushing the car.Xyz22 wrote:McL has a completely different aero configuration than Ferrari. It's absolutely clear how quicker McL is in the straights and Ferrari in the high speed corners.
Most likely, Ferrari will trail McLaren by 0.1 or 0.2 seconds, considering Ferrari has gone with a different setup this year. I strongly believe Ferrari will overtake McL during the season after the first upgrade, as Ferrari has more to unlock with the new car compared to McL. It's good to see others are behind Ferrari. Ferrari is playing the long game this season.
Those times are a bit misleading. For the 21,6 and 21,2 Leclerc was using DRS to catch up to Verstappen (not being within DRS). For the 20,8 he cooled the tyres and there was definitely an engine mode change, I think he ran the race mode for that lap, then swapped back to the practice mode for the final 21,6s lap.SoulPancake13 wrote: ↑14 Mar 2025, 07:57This race sim from Charles is mighty, before hitting traffic (aka Max) the times were crazy, he hit a 1.21.2
