No. They couldn't have overtaken/defended against Max. The Ferrari was notably slower than Redbull and Mercedes. On any tyre.
Btw, LH's ego must have taken a hammer blow today, after he got overtaken in two 'race-crafty' moves by LeClerc and Piastri. He was so busy keeping the car 'alive' that he simply didn't have the spare "processing power" to indulge in defence.

Max yes but how you know that MB if they were behind could had pass them? To me in the conditions that the track was, no one could pass anyone normally.

Ferrari in the wet are simply awful. Car always lacks pace in the wet but also suffers from deg, and the strategy calls from the team are always one step behind everyone else.
Other than that a lot of work to do to close the gap to the mclarens for everyone, they are RB19 level ahead on todays evidence

Outside of this race which was always going to be a disaster as Ferrari cars never work in the wet (outside some very rare outliers) McL advantage is just too big. I don't think someone will be able to challenge them.

Wish someone from the pit sees this comment and I would advise them to just copy RB n max in rain situations. If max pits then pit if max goes for full wet do as same. Redbull hardly ever get it wrong. On the contrary Ferrari, Not only mess up the timing to pit but also often get the tyre choice wrong

after Friday, as I understand it, they upgraded the car higher, because probably on Friday after practice they saw a lot of wear on the bar, and as they raised the car, they lost a lot of performance, the car on Friday and Saturday are different cars

I think at a more conventional circuit, namely China, maybe they'll be able to tune in the car properly. Whatever happens...this weekend in China is gonna be an indicator of performance in future races.

There is no other explanation really. Leclerc after quali said that they had to change something that would have had a negative impact on performance (implying for the entire weekend).

I dont see the race as a failure. It could have gone any direction with the gamble.
The drivers say the car was not great to drive in the wet, but Lewis clearly had pace behind albon but was just bottled in. Other times there were drs trains. The drivers also kept it out of the wall.
This car is 4th fastest behind the mercedes. Redbull and Mclaren are another step ahead.

Leclerce was in clean air and could not gain on Russel. So that said enough about ferrari pace.

Lewis could not overtake but this because of the current formula and tyres. It was not going to be possible againt a Williams. He made a few attemps. His quality of being solid also shone through. Charles made big error with the spin, and Lewis found his way leading at one point. I was expecting the team to pit him, byt the pitwall got too greedy with the gamble.

We have work to do with the strategy mostly. The car isnt fast but i think it will be fine in hotter temperatures. Maybe able to be ahead of Mercedes.
The Driver and Race engineer connnection needs work also, but I am glad this difficult race put strains on Lewis and Adami to break the ice and learn more of how each other works.
It seens Adami expects the car to be able to have the K1 engine mode right out of the corners, and Lewis feelsthe grip was not there for it. They will talk after the race and learn each other's perspective.
This is early times guys. I am not concerned.
McLaren is likely to be champion but I think the ferrari drivers are still the most solid pair.
The car is still a mystery.
