Moved to race forum from Aston team forum since this has to do with the race.

wow i couldnt see that much gravel on the tv. surprised there werent more problems than just alonso. maybe helped out by the safety car he caused. it looked like gasley kicked out some of it right in front alonso
You are correct and they REALLY need to do something about this next year. The constant gravel spray there is totally unacceptable. It's a problem every year and needs to stop.
I feel in the minority that I actually don't like gravel traps, but it gets drowned out by the old school thinking (even though I have watched F1 since the 80s) that tracks need to punish mistakes.

Ok, well, here we have Alonso being punished for Gasly's mistake. And I bet there is at least one every year.

Didn't Albon get caught out from a good position 2 years ago on gravel left by another driver?

It really adds nothing to the race at all.

I agree with you, but only in this specific case. T6 in Melbourne is that rare large radius 'cuttable kerb' corner with the gravel on the inside, which brings out the pebbles onto the track. Usually gravel traps are on the outside of a corner and the cars who breach into them, don't come out 'pouring the gravel back in'.

Correct which is why at T6 they need to change from gravel to something that does not piss all over the track. Larger more penalizing bumps maybe?

sausage kerb. The solution has been staring in their faces for so long. I don't know why the floor destroying sausage kerbs are not in vogue anymore.

Well right when I thought maybe Macca was being reeled in, Norris pounds the field for almost half a second. Wow. Nice work. I think Merc had the PU turned down (hope to call it an engine again soon), and it slowed their pace on softs. Until that run Russel looked on fire. It is going to be really interesting to see what happens with that dude this year and in the off season. Good to see Ferrari finding some time. It would be nice if they can be at the sharp end all season. Four teams at the top would be optimal.

Apologies. F1 Tech's weird behavior sometimes throws off my location on the site.
