After damage charles was flying. Kinda feels like that balance shifted towards rear due to loss of dwf at front.
Meaning if we can solve rear loss of dwf and height issue we can compete. But i think its gonna take a lot of time for nothing.
Focus on this season to know the car and suspension and spend development time all on 2026

Leclerc was pretty adamant the damage was costing a lot of lap time and he is one of the most honest driver out there.

Not by starting P6, that's for sure.

But looking at his last lap and inlap during the first stint he had a LOT of pace.

He literally damaged his car in the first lap. Statement like “After damage he was flying” doesn’t make sense here. You couldn’t see his pace without damage, could you?

I don't think Leclerc would know if this is true or not, he didn't see the data yet at the time he did those interviews. It may have been faster or slower, all he would really know is the car felt strange to him with the damage (he said this on the radio in the middle of the first stint.)

I have a theory whats is happening.... In bahrain watching the car lap after lap, it became apparent the balance traits of Ferrari seemed most deviating out of the front teams. Same corner(s) one lap on rails -best car on track, next lap inconsistent balance suffering from under/oversteer. I wonder if the car has a inherant sensitivity to ground clearance/balance which the team are trying to compromise with suspension set-up? This inherent sensitivity i think is making the SF25 to be set-up in such a way which costing us performance and the sensitivity is making it go out of the performance window (very very narrow performance window).

I am convinced the engineers know about this, as they been tinkering with the car balance in Australia/China. I think to get consistent balance there is changes they have to do as they have no choice. Also, i think the engineers are NOT seeing this in the sim and this is further confusing as listening to Lewis comments they was convinced before qualy the car be fine -but it was not.

I mean we never saw him drive without the damage, so we can't really say he was flying "after" the damage. More like he was flying despite the damage.

Given the nature of the Shanghai track, the last place you would want damage is around your front left tyre. If you lose your left end plate your front left will naturally slide a lot more. 20-30 points of downforce is a lot. The wing damage is probably partially to blame for his awful deg on the hard stint. Honestly he may have made weight if the deg was lower.

The wing did admittedly seem to twist and flex a lot under load without the endplate, which likely caused a major reduction in drag down the straights, but I don't think it got anywhere close to outweighing the loss in front left grip.

I think he scores a podium at least without the damage. Possibly even the win, given how close the field was.

The high deg with the hards is also partially explained by the fact that he was initially on a 2 stop strategy and not a 1 stop.
And yeah of course the lack of 30 points of downforce is much worse with the hards tyres that require more load to perform.

The issue is that they didn't fix the problem of the SF 24, that is the qualifying performance. Starting this behind = It's over 99% of races.

There’s honest and there is delusional. Come on…did you see McLaren? Piastri had that covered while yawning

I never said Leclerc was going to beat the McLarens. I reported that he said that the damage was worth significant amount of laptime.

Let's be honest here, Haas only did what they did because they're trying to save resources this year with 2026 regs looming.
Haas is operating at the budget cap just like every other team (except maybe RB). Haas is doing so well financially now that Gene Haas doesn't even have to put his own money into the team at this point.

They are keeping the same chassis and suspension becuase they aren't fighting for the championship, and prefer to spend more to bring a more mature car for 2026 over finishing (for example) p6 instead of p8 in 2025.

If Haas expected to be super competitive in 2025, they would have brought a new chassis and the 2025 Ferrari suspension.

Whatever caused the team to miscalculate, it surely won’t happen again. On Charle’s side it was because of the high tyre wear for having stopped just once and on Lewis’ side it was an insignificant amount of more plank wear of 0.5 mm.

There’s only one embarrassing thing and it’s this thread once again. The comments make me feel ashamed even though they’re not mine - such is the low level of some of them.
Bunch of clueless people regarding the technical matter criticizing the team for the suspension layout or even the whole aero platform. I can’t stop shaking my head reading through. Sad times.

McL were indeed managing. As some suggested, it looked like Leclerc was the only one not managing. I think he threw caution to the wind once he had damage, had little to lose, and tyre management was not his concern. That style of drive looks great, but it came back to haunt him when he had nothing to attack Russell, and got overtaken by Max. The win was never on.

Ferrari thought it was a two stop, once they confirmed it was a one stop he stopped pushing too. He would've managed had they told him earlier I think, he was the one who suggested a one stop at the start of the race and they rejected it.

I have no idea why Ferrari couldn't figure out it was a one stop from the start. Every single other team did.
