It won't be a "funny" summer with McLaren being so strong in hot temperatures.

Let's see how the car improves through the weekend.

Our upgrades won't win us anything this year. McLaren will wipe the floor like Red Bull in 2023. Max already made a difference ensuring that they win only 23 races lol.

This is not a great year but we have to see whatever scraps we can get. Maybe a couple more wins for sure will help morale going into 2026.

RB21 is slower than RB20 in FP1. 1:29.659 last year FP1 vs 1:29.818 in FP1 today.

These comparisons are kind of pointless tbh. Temperatures etc all play a big role. At Bahrain, every one was slower than 2023 RB19 in terms of performance. It's always relative to competition that matters.

1st PU has a lot of mileage (all practice, races and sprints) so it could be time to switch to practice and race engines.
I'm not sure. I kind of remember going until race 7 with just 1 PU in previous years.
But could be logistics of other optimization behind.

Although the time sheet paints a pretty bad picture, the car seems to struggle with the 'slow turns' T1-2 chicane and T4. Looks alright elsewhere.
(note: this is from onboard camera observation)

Now that the track temperature gets lower, the car starts to work. Impressive lap by Tsunoda, only 4 tenths slower than Leclerc lap. If Tsunoda can go that fast, Max can probably go as fast as Leclerc.

It's not the worst thing in the world now that track is cool, but it's not faster the Mclaren because they are simply missing downforce in the high speed corners. Max can do his best lap (like Suzuka), but the Mclarens will always have 2-3 tenths if they put the lap together.

Looks to be 3 fastest behind the mclarens, it's better.

Would be nice if Tsunoda can beat some of the other cars too.

It will be close but I'd say 4th, behind Leclerc, who was blocked by one of the Red Bulls on his first run.

Norris is stuck behind Tsunoda and can't overtake him nor exploit McLaren's speed, Piastri is lapping 1s faster than him. The McLarens are untouchable, but struggle if in traffic.

Max is struggling sadly.

EDIT Norris sent Yuki into the wall :D

Would be happy if he just didn't wreck the car.
