1) Alonso was faster than Russell in the first stint. Interesting...
2) Was there any explanation for the front brake fire after the first pitstop? Did they change parts here with the upgrades? I wonder if that had impact on the rest of the race.
3) It's the first race with upgrades and they only had Lance's feedback on Friday. They will continue to optimize the setups around the new parts with Alonso .
I watched the whole race from Alonso's onboard and the brakes where barely mentioned and the fire never mentioned.

Slow corners, bumpy, lot of curbs and mechanical grip important. All the things that the AMR25 is not good at combined...

The data show that P5 in qualifying was the highest outcome indeed, as Aston Martin still has problems with low speed corners (-13Kh/h vs McL and -10Km/H vs Russel in P4):

Minimum corner speed ALO: 91Km/h vs PIA 104Km/h vs RUS 101Km/h

On a track with less slow corners they should be way more competitive.

Fingers crossed for Monaco, the king of slow corners....
thats not a car characteristic. thats alonsos driving style. but watching the onboard during the race, i still think the car is a bit stiff when riding curbs
There is some of that, but it's too much of a difference to be just driving style :D

I would prefer to be cautious going to Monaco just in case. Anything better will be a nice surprise, but we don't know yet.
Agreed.

Hopefully they have the data now, they can do minor setup changes. The new simulator should do the work.
If they can end up behind Williams that would be a good upgrade, with future upgrades in pipeline, should be more competitive for races to come...

Schmidt in the AMuS video blog:

He believes that they made a little step, but not a breakthrough. Rear deg is still a problem. He doubts that they would have made the 1-stopper work (without the VSC), because their lap times were too slow even before the VSC. But he also (speculates) that they could make another step with the Barcelona parts to regain 5th. Engineers claim (once again) that they now understand the car, let's see...

I don't think they will do well in Monaco. They were pretty bad at Imola attacking the chicane and generally using the kerbs.

Qualifying is the Key, if they can get within top 10 in quali, then points will be in the cards..

After Barcelona, Aston Martin will bring to the track everything that improves the car and can be used in the AMR26

For example, THE FRONT SUSPENSION

AS

How much do current regs overlap with new regs?

Don’t forget it’s a mandatory two stop this year as well

This week in Monaco they will carry aerodynamic upgrades specific to a high-load track and next week in Barcelona they will also have a new front wing to meet the FIA's new flexibility requirements. They remain focused on 2026, but anything that improves AMR25 that can be applied to AMR26 (such as front suspension work) will be subject to evolution: "When it takes away aerodynamic resources for the 2026 car, we'll start to question it. But as long as they are technologies that are applicable to next year's car, we will be determined to go for everything. In this industry, you can never be good enough.

That's not new. Cowell said things in that direction for quite some time now, so he did Sunday after the race too.

Actually Newey already said that everybody had to start with a clean sheet for 2026. But it's a clever answer from Cowell, as he left the door open for further improvements for the AMR25, but doesn't promise anything.

They went from nearly last to top 10 on merit with both cars in Q.

Some better race execution could have had both cars in the points easily. That's a breakthrough.

The 14 points Stroll has came with a big helping of penalties for drivers ahead of him in those races.
