says "Alonso's race was not going well after he lost positions at the start. The Spaniard then lost a handful of places after the rear of his AMR25 stepped out and sent him the Spaniard through the gravel at Turn 5."
That is not true. He lost places cause Alonso's left front was dead, gave up and resulted in so much understeer that the car didn't make the curve.
Alonso kept complaining of HUGE amount of understeer. He said "he needed more front wing". They kept increasing the front wing after each pit stop, by the 2nd pit stop they had increased the front wing load by 15 points(that's 1.5%)! That's a huge amount, you rarely see more than 2 or 3 points during a race. For me, Alonso's statement about top speed is him just saying something cause he has to, misdirection if you will. The car that he was attacking with after the safety car at the end was a much better balanced car. The real story for me is why was the front wing load so badly miscalculated? What would the car's pace been like if they would have gotten it right ? I mean, he surely wouldn't have gone off the track on that lap and would have been able to do many more laps on those softs in the first stint, likely at a faster pace. More importantly how do you get it right next time?
