The other point of signing the top driver is so that you aren't competing against him.

You can only sign 2 drivers max. You can’t sign Norris, Piastri, Max, Hamilton, Leclerc, Sainz Russell, etc. The difference between the top tier of drivers is too small to overcome the differences in equipment your gonna get in equipment in the next 3 to 7 years.

It can be a big impact though, with the last 15 WDC (taking out Rosberg) being "owned" by only 3 drivers. Certainly good if you're in possession of that tenacity and skill in the foreseeable future.

Sorry bud wrong stat...How many of those were won by less than 100 points? Maybe one or two if you exclude drivers from the same team being the next closest driver in points? 100 points is Huge! Means that the winning driver could have sat out the last 4 races and still won....It also means that if they would have paired Lance with a worse driver than him, he still would have Managed to win atleast half those WDCs.

Question is if they manage to build a fast car, then why Max ? One of the greatest drivers of all time nothing to say but the current grid have Russel, Sainz, Hadjar and list goes on. They would still win and spend probably half of what they will have to pay for Max.

Is this a rhetorical question? Because he is the best driver, and pushes cars to things no other driver could, just look at last year's championship...

Max is one of the greatest ever as I said but if you build a car that can compete for the world championship ? Then it is not an imperative to have MAX because there would be other less expensive options. Or Newey is concern that only MAX could drive the car he will build ?

From a corporate perspective Cowell must try to lure VER if he is available (ALO is still very good but for sure not the future of the team).

Yes but big risk in Newey words, is the goal to build a winning team that can dominate with a car that performs regardless of the driver (Eg. Hamilton and Rosberg and now Piastre and Norris) or is the plan now to build a car for Verstappen, duplicating what they did with Red Bull?

I think the first thing to consider when it comes to ideal drivers is that the car works well/very well. Because if it does, there will be many more drivers interested, and it will also be cheaper to sign them.

Once the green truck becomes the green arrow or shows steady progress, we'll have to let Drugovich run laps. DeVries' disappointment is still fresh in my mind, so that would be the first thing to rule out in Drugovich's case. And Lance will be doing some serious lap work too, of course.

The ideal combination is supposed to be a highly experienced, winning driver who is able to identify/locate the car's problems. And who is a perfectionist and loves mechanics. Alongside him, as second driver, is a very bright young man who also doesn't frequently ruin a fortune on repairs. Who asks interesting questions, has a lot of dedication and learns quickly.

That's more or less how I see it.

This year Oscar or Lando will likely be champion. What special experience or skills does Oscar have with just his 3rd year in F1? What experience did Hamilton have in 2007 when he lost the title by one point because of gearbox glitch at Interlagos? He would have won the title as a rookie without that glitch that dropped him down the order.
Basically it follows that once AMR build the fastest car, any competent driver can win the title, even a driver with little experience. Alonso is good enough to get another title if the car has the pace, and even a driver like Lance. The car just needs a pace advantage.

nobody intentionally builds a car that can only be driven by one teammate. redbull certainly didnt plan on doing it. i dont even think max wants a car like that.

In most seasons, a car is dominant enough where as long as you beat your teammate, you can win WDC. I dont know if Lance can do that against too many people. 2014-2016 is a perfect example where the WDC could only come from one team. In other seasons, like 2021, driver can make a huge difference. Max is the type of driver where if your car is close enough to the leader, he will give you a chance to win. He should be the first choice of every team and probably is.

I think a lot of the "car is built around Max" is way overhyped considering hes had similar dominance over teammates across two very different regulation sets. I think people just dont want to give Max credit for as good as he his because they might have to admit hes better than their GOAT driver. Alonso suffers from similar treatment. As soon as he started winning podiums regularly was when you saw a barrage of Stroll criticism from media because they didnt want to give Alonso credit. People can look up most of the anti-Stroll media pieces came in the first half of 2023 when AM was good. Almost none came when he was partnered with Vettel.

I am the biggest supporter there could be of Alonso, but this year is the first time he starts to show signs of wear.....he is so talented that he can still manage races better than most, but raw speed is fading.
