The Race:

Image

Last year's constructors' champion McLaren continues to lead the standings so has no change and still has the smallest allowance of 70%.

"It's a really good challenge to understand how much performance we can still get out of the 2025 car and how much performance we really need to be putting on to 2026," said McLaren technical director for engineering Neil Houldey.

"And at the moment, really, we've captured everything that we think we can on 2025. There'll be another couple of small upgrades, potentially something a little bit bigger at the next event. But that's really all in manufacturing now.

"And the technical office are, give or take a couple of people, fully focused on the 2026 car now."

So, upgrades designed to make it easier for Lando to find the limit, not all to improve the best lap time, but to make it more accessible. I think Silverstone will be the real test of these of course, but it's still great to get such a good quali result.
Its interesting that McLaren have managed to do in three months, that Red Bull haven't managed in over two years.
They finally have the right people in the right places. That's why I'm completely relaxed about next season. I'm willing to bet that they can carry their dominance into the next period. 8)

Lando was very happy with the car in quali: https://www.racefans.net/2025/06/28/nor ... -pole-lap/
Nonetheless Norris said he felt confident in the car and it had been more competitive than he expected at the Red Bull Ring.

McLaren have introduced various new parts over the last two races, some of which were intended to improve its performance but others aimed at helping Norris feel more confident in the car. He said they appear to be working as desired.

It's affected both drivers, just one more than the other, so it isnt Lando.specific I don't think.

Lando may benefit more. but both should be able to find more time.

But in my opinion, Lando was always going to do well here. He loves it and he will have his confidence here.

There's just one proper slow turn, none of the stuff that would bother Lando. The braking zones here are simpler affairs in general. And if the car feels better to him now, he has everything to dominate here.

It'll be interesting to see track temps come race time.

Glad to read that there will be some more upgrades coming, nothing massive as Houldey has previously said on Friday.

Hopefully the ‘something a little bigger’ makes it to Silverstone (I’m attending) to improve the chances of a fantastic result

Yea, the current structure has proven that if it sets off on the wrong foot it has the ability to get it right better than the others.

Also, I dont know why people are making such a big deal of the gap. The important bit is the race tomorrow.

Max also had a 4 tenth gap on Lando last year, but all that advantage vanished on race day because McLaren was better on the tires.
Yes, however Max has been lauded up all weekend about that gap, so now Lando has gone one better and created a gap of over half a second so he rest he too should recieve praise even if the race pace isn’t so great like Max’ race pace wasn’t.

I feel like front wing + suspension upgrades are just begging for a new floor but IDK...

I think that whilst we may not see a lot of updates, I think they've been bringing updates under the skin, particularly around the suspension and chassis, as these can carry over to next year.

I also suspect they've been cagey about aero development having put more time to the 26 car without revealing their plans to other teams, or in fact to have some gamesmanship. This feels like a very good way of maximising the development and budget caps for this and next years car.

Race will start soon. Good luck to both of our drivers and I hope they stay away from accidents.
