I think the new package looks promising. Stroll with the lowest top speed still split the mercs in FP2 soft runs. They have a fighting chance of being best of the rest after the Ferraris, MCLs and Verstappen. And maybe even might fight the Mercedeses. But Let's see after overnight tweaks from all the teams. Should at least be ahead of Haas, Sauber and Alpine and fighting for points. The only problem I see for the race is if they fit the big rear wing and it's dry, they will struggle on the straights and could be overtaken there.

The benefit of the big rear wing is the DRS is a bit more effective, so as long as Alonso can find a culprit to stay within 1 second of again it should work (ideally someone from the top 4 teams if we are quick enough)

Which is why the setup for high DF must be more than just the rear wing, Those MAX speeds are all with DRS open. Stroll must be running a big BEAM wing too in his HDF setup. Hopefully, they can find a mix with a big rear wing but small beam wing. That will restore the top speed with DRS.

im more interested in race pace and deg compared to single lap. would be nice to see alonso push a bit more, compared to managing early in a stint
dont forget there is a chance of rain on saturday and sunday as well.

Atleast it's interesting and will continue to be for atleast a few more races as they dig more out of the upgrade.

Alonso is preferred at Aston Martin
At Aston Martin, Silverstone is all about the new subfloor. Its shape has "changed slightly", explains the team. In addition, the racing team from Silverstone - the factory is just outside the track compared to the home straight - has revised all the outer edges and also redesigned parts of the fairing at the rear. The goal: more downforce.

But: At first only Alonso gets the new parts. The ex-champion should drive it in the first free practice session, his teammate Lance Stroll should continue to use the previous expansion levels. Aston Martin expects this to be a direct comparison in order to be able to assess how good the new parts are.

Alonso himself doesn't want to promise too much: "The Silverstone package is smaller than the Imola package. It’s really just small adjustments to the subfloor, nothing obvious.

"But anything we can bring is welcome. And the parts in Imola worked even better than the wind tunnel numbers suggested.” That makes him optimistic, says Alonso.

Unfortunately the key signings like Newey (March), Cardile or Elliott (both July) started quite late for the 2026 car, especially Cardile and Elliott.

Lack of quality control of new parts made? Wrong installation of new parts? I hate the vagueness.

ALO made S1 at the end. 3 tenths already slower than LEC. Maybe no tyre temps or just slow.

Lack of tyre temps. Also no run on softs. Everyone else had pretty much done multiple laps on it. So he hasn’t had a chance to find the limit yet
