Nothing changed, except that the right deal appeared (in the eyes of the officials) for McLaren.Balalu wrote: ↑28 Aug 2025, 21:26-wkst- wrote: ↑28 Aug 2025, 13:10Where are the people now who claimed that McLaren doesn't want and need a title sponsor, because they would be so dependend on them? Or a sponsor doesn't fit into the McLaren brand? It's all a question of money and obviously now the right deal appeared for the team.
Things change. People, companies, groups, teams, etc. adapt and move on. You should try it.
Things obviously did change because the right offer wasn't there and Mclaren hadn't even secured the WCC this time last year.-wkst- wrote: ↑29 Aug 2025, 08:24Nothing changed, except that the right deal appeared (in the eyes of the officials) for McLaren.Balalu wrote: ↑28 Aug 2025, 21:26-wkst- wrote: ↑28 Aug 2025, 13:10Where are the people now who claimed that McLaren doesn't want and need a title sponsor, because they would be so dependend on them? At that time a title sponsorship would be a big mistake because the deal would be worth much less. They have made themself worth a premium again and with that they have inked a proper deal that will give them financial stability for the future. By all means a master stroke by Zak.-wkst- wrote: ↑29 Aug 2025, 08:24Nothing changed, except that the right deal appeared (in the eyes of the officials) for McLaren.Balalu wrote: ↑28 Aug 2025, 21:26-wkst- wrote: ↑28 Aug 2025, 13:10Where are the people now who claimed that McLaren doesn't want and need a title sponsor, because they would be so dependend on them? Personally I hope they can make something akin to the old Repsol liveries![]()

I have absolutely no problem with this, and I congratulate McLaren and their officials. But I can only laugh at the people who claimed for years that McLaren doesn't need and want a title sponsor because that would harm the brand or they would be to dependend on the title sponsors and once it's over again they would be in troubles.proteus wrote: ↑29 Aug 2025, 10:37At that time a title sponsorship would be a big mistake because the deal would be worth much less. I do wonder why you have to seek for a problem in this? Like they have betrayed humanity by getting this deal...
I think there has been a missunderstanding on your part. It wasn't the people saying it, it was coming from McLaren themselves. They also never said they didn't want a title sponsor, they just weren't desperate to look for one when brand value was low after the 2015-2018 hiatus.-wkst- wrote: ↑29 Aug 2025, 11:26I have absolutely no problem with this, and I congratulate McLaren and their officials. Without a doubt they always wanted a title sponsor and now the conditions are right for their officials.![]()
Now they came to a point where a title level branding was finally worth selling, and they did. It was just a matter of waiting for the right deal while exploiting a different business model of employing a larger number of "smaller" partners, unlike other F1 teams.“Would we do a title deal? We would. Are we actively pursuing it? No. Do I want to sell title level branding? Yes.
“But I want us to be known as McLaren. I like our colour. I think it has really resonated with the fans who are critically important to us and so our business model is built upon doing what we are doing which is bringing on great partners but not needing a title sponsor.”
Evolving fast. No idea about the weather but looks fine. They will likely do some laps on used tyres. Just 4 laps on new tyres.
