Really impressive from McLaren, reminded me of FP3 in Saudi or Bahrain (this only vs main competitors)
And till now Lando has the upper hand vs Oscar. Watching the onboards, Oscar still didn't figured out the key to T8 - T9 (specially) - T10 section. Imo this will be the area to decide quali classification order between our boys.

I wonder if there's any further infrastructure upgrades they can sanction for the future with all these resources. Although they've only recently upgraded the wind tunnel, sim, cfd and composites facilities etc., there's always more you can do to stay up-to-date.
Full Chassis Dyno would be good - Merc have one, i think RBR have one, and id be surprised in Ferrari didnt

I didn't think f1 used chassis dynos but specialist engine dynos.

Do you mean dyno, since we dont make our own engines?

Though we could potentially have the budget.

no, full rolling road chassis dyno - they all use em these days - thats why everyone is so reliable come winter test

Ahh yeah but thats not a dyno, its a wind tunnel.

I believe our wind tunnel is able to simulate road conditions, pitch and yaw.

Indeed, it has a rolling road.

the wind tunnel is 60% models. The full chassis dynos has a whole race car, with engine and gearbox, chained to the floor. Its not a wind tunnel but has monster fans to give some simulated air flow
(might not actually be chained to the floor, but its a dyno at the uprights, so full drive chain)

Awesome job by the team again.
Great laps from both drivers but well done to Oscar in particular =D>

But you're limited to.low speed Air and model size.

Think Oscar has become one of those drivers where you can’t count him out till the session is over no matter how far ‘behind’ he seems, like Verstappen

Blimey, you take some convincing dont you.

The regs allow for it. The fans are just for cooling

Lol

Im just confused by what you are suggesting. Why do we need a dyno?

The wind tunnel has a rolling road, though not attached to the hubs like that as it wouldn't accurately represent aero and because the tyres are an active part of suspension and because these are ground effect cars that need to be suspended by the tyres.

its a full chassis dyno. You are running the new engine and gearbox, checking the installation, checking the cooling, gathering data. Loooking for any issues that in the old days could lose you a day in testing

We do that kind of work on a filming run normally and bar the Honda engine and its issue with oil and g forces, which the rolling road won't detect, we haven't had such issues, but maybe I'm mistaken.

I can see why Red Bull do as they develop engines.

Geo's right, you do take some convincing. :D

Oscar showing his true Prost today, chipping away with methodical precision. Very impressive to tip Lando out of P1 as he really looked supreme here. I guess the negatives will be out again saying Lando "bottled it" or some such nonsense. Lando was certainly sounding very deflated after that, if the shoe were on the other foot Oscar would have been philosophical, his mind balance is extraordinary for his status as a 25 year old in only his third F1 season. Great work by all the McLaren team, hope they can keep their strategic heads together tomorrow.
