Lando is a super quick driver. This was a Lando circuit. Lando had a great weekend prep leading up to quali. He made no errors of note. Oscar was on Lando's pace. That should scare 21 drivers taking part in the 2026 championship

6 engine related mechanical failures for the Mercedes powered cars so far this year, wow! We will probably see a few more till the end of the season.

Gutted for the championship fight, and the next race in Monza points will definitely get more distant. Surely he will get a new engine, and since the last one from Belgium being the last from the allocation, he will be starring at a 10 place grid drop ensuring his out of the fight.

Mclaren is quite a draggy car so taking a new engine in Monza will not make for a good recovery imo, thoughts ?

Though I am supporting Oscar to win, not like that. Disappointing that Landos day had to end without him making a mistake. He drove well, I think Oscar probably had him covered but Lando was keeping him on his toes too.

Depending exactly what the issue is could still come back to bite Oscar too if there is an underlying issue they can't fix. There is a very long way to go still.

Can you just imagine what the "Mclaren favour Lando" crowd will make of a chassis side DNF for Oscar
Yeah, just kind of exploded that ridiculous idea. Arguably the most transparent team in F1. There was palpable grief over the loss of the #4 car across the McLaren personnel. Another great 1-2 lost.

Oscar does seem to have improved even across the 15 races this year. He seems to have a little extra performance that he holds in reserve, in other words he drives within himself nearly all the time. Yesterday he always looked like he was just setting a pace which he could regulate as and when needed.
I think it was tough to follow there, too. It's possible Lando was doing very well to get to 1.2s behind Oscar and hang there, but that said, what is hard for other cars isn't necessarily hard for the MCL39.

I'd seen Oscar following Max for some time at Miami, and he used to have issues with destroying his tyres when following other drivers.

Has it been confirmed that the engine can’t be used again? Stella said it was a chassis issue and not a Mercedes issue?

Already said, if Lando takes a 10 place grid drop in Monza he won’t make it to the podium

Hed be better not taking it at Monza and he has other used engines.

With regards to the engine. Its possible iit could have been damaged, but you'd hope its fine.

I'd imagine it went back to HPP for checks.
