If they were bothered about that then Doohan would be back in the car!!!

They should be looking for a driver on par with Gasly or better.
It doesn't turn.

Rough year for rookies with Doohan and Lawson axed early. The Lawson-Tsunoda switch managed to harm both drivers--the silver lining being Yuki got to drive with main Honda powered team, at Japan, while Lawson is getting more WDC points with the sister team. Which makes me wonder what Colapinto was faced with. A similar poorly timed promotion that hinders not one but two drivers? Piastri dodged a bullet.

Gasly confirmed until 2028! Super signing by Alpine-Mercedes.

I’m thrilled to commit my long-term future to Alpine. As a Frenchman, especially, driving for a French car company makes me feel very proud. Since I joined in 2023, I have always felt this team is the right place to be for the future.

Flavio’s [Briatore] support and belief in me, François’ [Provost] commitment to the Formula One project, as well as the people we have in Enstone made this a natural decision.

I want to be here in years to come and deliver on our joint objective: to win races and world championships. We’re all in this together and I look forward to continuing this special story.

Fantastic stuff!

No confirmation of a long-term second driver just yet.

Was Sainz unwise to reject the slick French national team?

The Williams is actually fast, so he made the right call.

I see Franco is still 1/2 a second slower than Pierre and managed to bag another dead last position on the timing sheets.

Waste of a very good driver in this team, imo.

No. Alpine are behind Williams and there is no reason to expect that to change next season.

There are less behind Williams than the difference in power between the engines. So it means their chassis is better (or at least on the same level)

If it takes 16 races to figure out that you might have chosen the wrong team, I'm pretty confident to say that Sainz had to sign with a team so early that it was impossible predict the better choice. Williams had a better financial backing at the time over Alpine. Renault, over the last decade, did a better job of factory upkeep than Williams. Dropping the Renault power unit helps Alpine with financials and with not having a PU deficit. So I give Alpine the edge right now over Williams but you're talking a difference in probability of performing better of 1 to 2 % ?

Well, not sure of that.

But anyways, almost all drivers on the grid have taken a bet for 26' and no one can predict:

- HAM have take a bet on Ferrari. This year is bad for him, he doesn't like those ground effect cars, but 26 is totally different. So it can be a good choice.
- ALO is betting on AMR-Honda with Newey
- VER is staying at RBR... it is not a bet but more a prayer that the next car with Ford will be OK, I think not.
- A driver like HUL is betting on Audi factory team.
- GAS just signed for 3 years with Alpine, betting on a new chassis maybe better with Sanchez, and with Mercedes PU. Who knows, they could be fighting into the top 4 team

And so on.

SAI had no luck in all that, I believe Mercedes made a mistake, they should have taken him, ANT was clearly not ready despite tons of private testing before the season
