In the rookie class he was by far the best.

He qualified 6th in his category (despite 125hp power deficit and 35kg ballast) and completed the 14 laps in the race, however he couldn't do another stint with another squad because the second car had issue (this was a requisite instead of competing in two different races because he already is FIA grade platinum licensed), so the license for the GT3 is still in doubt. He can either do a second race in the future, or receive an examption from a committee that is evaluating the case. They say that in the past the second was applied in these cases.

I like it. There shouldn't be any special privileges. Driving a GT car in a multi-class race at the nurburgring is the not the same thing as driving an F1 car. There can be different flags and different procedures to follow. Respecting the process also shows humility.

It's done
“I’m happy it all went smooth, and I got my DMSB Permit Nordschleife. I really enjoyed myself, but that’s always the case around here”, said Max. “It was good to drive stints in the race with traffic, both with faster and slower cars. There was also a ‘code 60’ race neutralisation, double waved yellows and a standard yellow flag. I drove in the wet, the dry and in mixed conditions. I’ve gained experience in where the grip is and isn’t and completed a start procedure. It was really good to gain more experience on this circuit.”

Why do you think many from F1 don't participate in different category racing (there have only been a few - Montoya, Alonso, Raikkonen) ? The immediate answer is 'contract with team prohibits', but we know it's something that can be negotiated by drivers if they have the intent to participate, even before contract negotiations begin. The real reason is, there is risk of 'exposure' or 'being found out lacking' in other categories, where the differences between the cars isn't very large, like in F1. In F1, there is the 'it's the car' excuse which is being used where it's relevant and irrelevant. In that regard, I respect Max for 'risking his reputation' (basically he doesn't care) - he was prepared to not be the fastest guy in his vehicle class, and from what I understand about his mindset, he isn't 'afraid' of not finishing 1st when he races in the actual GT3 race later. He will try tooth and nail to be 1st, but he isn't afraid of 'oh so he is fast only in F1' comments, in case he doesn't.

I don't know how will do in GT3 but in the Porsche when there was aerial coverage i saw Max brilliance passing many times from the outside where no one else did that and gained places even if after in straights because of the power deficit that he had he was sitting duck.

Kudos to him for this and i hope that he will racing everything with 4 wheels in his spare time :)

Leclerc raced Le Mans, for Ferrari. Ok, maybe in a dominant(ish?) car, but still.
