Franco crashed out of qualifying once again!

HTF does he still have a seat? FFS, Jack was never this bad!

Shame they don't give Doohan another shot this season to see if it really was him. Not looking that way with how Franco is doing.

Agreed, they never gave him a proper go to begin with.

Even before the season started, Flavio wanted to replace him.
It has always been a thing with Flavio, he likes too much some drivers for some reason (Fisichella in the past for instance, Colapinto this year) and some other he doesn't

Flavio is like Helmut Marko, he makes up his mind very quickly, and then he rapidly dumps drivers who get the thumbs-down. He dumped Jenson Button quickly in the early 2000s (only to try and sign him later, according to Jenson), and cleaned out the driver development program over the last 18 months, leaving very few young drivers. Now Jack Doohan is looking for a drive elsewhere. If Colapinto had less sponsorship, he might have been replaced again. The Alpine team perpetually teeters on the brink of disintegration these days.

Colapinto has looked good recently and has been very competitive with Gasly. Don't see him going anywhere.

Well, finally he seems to drive decently.
But the car is the worst.

Flavio likes him since last year, so yes indeed he will probably have a chance at the new regs next year, with already one year of experience.

Actually, it is exactly the same situation than Antonelli

Are folks confident in the plan of Briatore for Alpine-Mercedes to run in the top 6 in the grid in 2026 (and therefore be a top 3 WCC team)? :?:

Their chassis seems decent, and primarily let down by their weak PU, so it is plausible.

He's a flare to his driving that has promise, needs more time to see which way it develops. Sometimes it comes to nothing, but just occasionally its the gestation of much more potent eventuality.

It has been masked for both he and Doohan with car performance this year through. Very difficult to see against their competitor drivers.

Although crashing alot in Williams, Colapinto did show some considerable pace there. Needs pragmatic management to fully evaluate.

It’s a shame Jack was not given the same amount of time as Franco, who is only there because of Argentinian money and effectively a pay driver.

I think so to, it's definitely a dismissive sport at the rarefied level of selection in the few drivers that make a successful career.
My allegiance, from watching Mick in Moto-GP an absolutely pinnacle era of that competition, with the most extraordinary skill, would like to have seen Jack in more secure position in this sport.

I do feel we haven't seen (for whatever reasons) that really acute "spaarkle" that some drivers and bike riders display prior to succes. He likely wary of failing and trying to exclude the wilder parts of pure driving behaviour, given his circumstances.

Agree it would have been good to see longer assessment overall.
