I remember last year the pace in the sprint was great but it only got worse after that so hope for something different.
The Mclaren pace last year in the race was also not spectacular btw and everybody expected otherwise.

Lando would have absolutely dominated had he led into T1.

He reeled Max in at a delta of 6 tenths a lap and while he had a 6 lap newer hard his pace was nuts.

IIRC Ferrari (=Leclerc) was miles quicker, Lando had no special pace in the first stint on mediums and only came alive on hards with the tyre delta

Yeah but Lando is a clean air driver. He is not good at cutting through a field. Like even with his pace advantage he was too hesitant against Max last year.

Race pace is definitely going to need some work to beat McLaren tomorrow, in addition to a good quali. However, I don’t think we should underestimate Mercedes. They’ve found some pace recently and if you recall last year George almost passed Lando early in the sprint too. That car has a burst of pace around here. Nonetheless Max started eking out the gap towards the end.

You might recall I flagged up how good Russell’s pace was in Baku. Of course I was shouted down with ‘Max was cruising to the win’
