I might be quite silly, but I was happy when VSC came. Leclerc would fight pretty agressively, and the risk of a crash would be quite big with 1-2 laps to go.
Without the Sainz yellow I am not sure that Max makes the pass, but with the yellow he closed the gap and I am confident he would have just breezed by Leclerc on the last lap.
Yeah but if you look at other things, Max was quite lucky that in the middle of his soft stint all drivers ahead of him boxed. If this didnt happen he would probably finish worse, because he would lose some valuable seconds while going through the field. Its ok, lets take this result.
How is that luck? They all decided what was the better option. To get eaten up by Max anyways or to basically use softs. What kind of twisted logic is this? Verstappen lost a P2 because of a dumb VSC call. Leclerc would.have been eaten the next lap. No traction in S3. Verstappens race went to ---. It happens and we move on but there's no luck in conscious decisions.

Well it is what it is, Max did an amazing second stint on tyres which weren't even new... Mega job if we looked at difficult circumstances today,
Max soft tires were 6 laps old. Two hot laps on them. Leclerc and Norris started with new soft tires. Max's race was better than it seems (but then let's not even talk about #4 ) .

I mean it was clear the race was never with #4. #4 had a car to win by 30s+ this late in the year.
Max looked quite happy after today. Now imagine a rainy win by him in Brasil and Mclaren being around P5 or P4, a Vegas win with Russel and Leclerc on the podium. The gap would go from 36 points to 10 points with 2 races to go. I might be dreaming, but just all is not lost. But we have to win it all, maybe it is "written in the stars".
Now they have time to analyse the data from this new update. The cars had "flashes" of good perfomance this race, but they have to deliver in the next races. Vegas is a low-downforce setup track, which should suit Red Bull, but Interlagos it is very hard to say.

Ofcourse he is happy, that was an unexpected podium! And yes you are dreaming mate. Take a look at Norris' pace today to wake up. If Verstappen wins this WDC then that's insane.

Could be the tyres not being in the right window, and not nailing the setup. But yeah it would be the biggest miracle of this century, beside 2007 (Kimi).
It would take a Norris DNF for a real chance. But I always thought that would need to happen anyways so not much has changed today in my view except one less race for that DNF to happen.

It was never in Max's hands. But any title hope needs a resurgent Oscar to take points off Lando. Which I doubt will happen. Today killed it in my view. With P2 I would still be a little hopeful but all these dropped points will bite in the end.

In my view the WDC race is still alive if RBR has got the car to challenge for pole and race wins.
Lando is not the most consistent driver on the grid, Max just need to grab the opportunity when it comes.

Lando hasn't finished behind a Ferrari or a Mercedes in months and now he's rinsing Piastri consistently. So it doesn't matter now if Max wins every single event from hereforth. Lando only has to finish P2.

Of course he did in Singapore. Also I think Piastri could be quite better in Interlagos and Qatar and be in the mix, maybe taking some points away from Lando. Will see.
It was always a tall order for Max to make up the 104-point gap and the only reason most of us maintain hope is because Max is the best driver on the grid and just insanely consistent as an athlete.
Not finishing P2 really sucks. He was 40 pts down from #1 before Mexico and needed to make 8 pts up every weekend. Finishing second would have been 7 pts gained instead of 4.
Ahh well, there is still statistical hope and, as always, anything can happen.
