Unusual for Lewis to opt for the lower downforce wing of the two

According to Italian YouTubers, both drivers went for the lower DF rear wing in SQ based on the sector times (S2 in particular) and the top speed :

In FP, both HAM and LEC spared a set of medium tyres, as VER did, saying that this tyre is the favorite tyre for the Sunday race.

Besides that aspect, it was interesting to see how they used tyres during the SQ. Thus, in SQ2, both drivers went for only 1 push lap and 3-lap stint, instead of NOR, PIA, VER, RUS, ANT, who went for a push lap, cool lap strategy doing 5 or 6 laps in the end. That means Ferrari went for a quick warm-up tyre setup, knowing that on the Saturday Sprint race would be a wet/damp race, and this would be a critical aspect in the race.

Then, regarding the Sprint race setup choice, in my point of view, Macca, Merc, and AM went for a dry setup and will use the Sprint race as a testing bed for the main race. Ferrari and VER seem to have a mixed setup, opting for a lower DF setup with a different warm-up phase choice, meaning Ferrari is aiming for a 2-stop strategy race on Sunday, and VER just for a 1-stop one. And last but not least, during the FP, both the Merc driver and VER did a Sunday sim race based on the higher lap times, something that speaks volumes about the Sprint race car setup choice ...

They need to try something else for Q. They can barely keep it on track and Lec has complained a dozen times about the bouncing

They need to take that rear wing off, they're too slow on the straights, quali looks like it'll be dry and it might not even rain tomorrow

Surprised they didn’t take advantage of Lewis having an extra soft, there. Really was nothing to lose.

Alonso holding CL back for that long, was depressing.

Not sure why Lewis did a double prep…completely ineffective.

In Q1 Hamilton complained about the prep lap and said the tires weren't in the right window.

In Q2 they tried something different but it went even worse.

Tires are truly Ferrari's worst enemy, even more than the other teams..

Also want to note Hamilton had terrible traffic in his lap. Almost seems like the team didn't account for the traffic with the changed prep

It’s like a lottery with these crap Pirelli tyres. Pressures way too high really need to get rid of such bad prescriptive tyres they’ve been crap since they came in to F1 Pirelli after all these years still haven’t got their heads around them

Is it going to rain tomorrow? because I can't imagine driving this car in the rain. Switching to lower downforce and the rear is sliding out especially in S3

Consistently losing a tenth to McLaren in S2

good job from Charles, Lewis' race might be rough tomorrow with the rear of his car sliding all over the place.

Probably not going to rain tomorrow, only 20% chance of rain last update
