Threw away a guaranteed P2 with this strategy. Mediums and worst case Norris passes.
maybe lost a P2, but P2/P3 who cares at this point  pitlane->podium another masterclass of our boy

Without that puncture, the victory might have been possible, even from starting from the pitlane.
I think that puncture was a blessing in disguise because it got him off that bad hard. The stop was under VSC so relatively cheap.

They should have still fought for the win without the final pitstop. Worst case P2 I think. The others simply weren't gaining that much on Max.

Anyways its only Max with whom Pitlane to P3 seems a disappointment because holy --- what a driver.

Yeah for sure. I just wanted to see a pass for the win instead of handing it to the Orange car.

Impressive drive. Agreed that the puncture was a blessing in disguise somewhat, but only because it happened under safety car conditions. He ditched that horrible hard tire and had tire delta on everyone else for the rest of the race so he could push like a madman. Not many people can make that work though. Must have been a lot of fun from inside the cockpit. Full attack all race.

Now it depends on how Vegas goes. It will be cold and a weak track for McLaren in general, but it seems like the title is really hard for Max now without a lot of luck (DNFs on Norris). Qatar and Abu Dhabi will be warm and tracks McLaren will be very strong at.

most frustrating thing is that in the end speed was there in the car, they just managed to switch it on this night, how bad was the car preparation work ahead of the weekend ?

He already went from pitlane to P13 on the hards.

Staying on the hard for a bit longer and then taking the medium-medium to the end would have been faster. The soft wasn't a good tyre either as we could see at the end. I'm not sure what would have been possible if he had not had that puncture but Lando would have been sweating that's for sure.

Max boxed under the VSC not SC and he was already up to P13 on the hards, he definitly lost time, would love to have seen how the race wouldve played out without the puncture because he doesnt box for Softs at the end and the medium tyres was was on at the time wouldve done a lot less laps.

The car had better speed but a lot of the perceived race pace improvement came from him having two new mediums whereas the McLaren had one. Lando had really good pace when he was on the medium.

I don't think hards were good enough to make that work as well as the eventual strategy panned out. If he doesn't overtake cars like he was overtaking, then the podium goes further and further away. You spend 1 lap behind the lower midfield and thats 1 second lost to the lead.
