McLaren MCL39

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

Not sure if there a 2026 MCL40 thread just yet but what do we think about both Ferrari and RBR rumored to be using push-push for the suspension next year? Will McLaren change as well? its been mouse quiet from their camp! (which I think/hope is good news because it was the same coming into this year)

Nothing ever leaks out from McLaren these days. It's been like this for a while and I doubt it changes with the 2026 car. There were a couple of contact points who shared things occasionally here in this forum but they've given up on doing that for a while now. Even back then, I would say McLaren was quite tight-lipped in general. Even as midfielders they used to hide things from their car in the promo shots.

In short, I wouldn't expect to hear much, especially not about these rather fundamental design decisions. We will see once the car is launched, and then confirm whatever we see on the launch in the testing itself, because McLaren hasn't been a stranger to using mule simplified cars for their launches either.

Different wing configurations for both drivers in FP1. Lando with the Monza wing, Oscar with a hybrid wing. Both slow though 😕 car looked abominable to drive

Unfortunately the source removed the comparison. Was a nice one, if I find it again I will repost it.
meanwhile the direct comparison as also colleagues mentioned: "the Monza wing" for Lando and the trimmed one for Oscar.

Did they continue the experiment through FP2 as well, or did they decide and gave one of them to both cars ?

Not only RW but also FW was trimmed for Oscar. Was same for Lando?

Both cars ran Lando's FP1 setup in FP2
