biggest problem was the timing, I think. The McLaren started their final lap at the very end, Sainz and Verstappen with around 1:30 to go.
I don't think so. Norris was 1s faster than Max, in his final Q3 lap, just that his mistake at T14 reduced it to 3 tenths. The McL39 isn't 1s faster than the RB21 on dry tyres. This quali session was all about 'who warms up their tyres best even before hitting T1 on a flying lap' - Norris and Mclaren did a superior job than Max and Redbull. It's that simple. Remember, Max had to do double-warmup laps in the FP sessions before his quali sim run, others didn't have to.
Not quite.
Lambiase:
Max, if you want to cool the tyres now to turn 14 you can do and there’ll be one more lap. Can let Fernando through if you want to.
Worn inters on drying track = Mclaren dominance. Same as Australia, Silverstone, and Spa. They had already driven 7 laps on the tire with a dry line forming. The inters overheat for everyone except Mclaren.

In Q1 and Q2 he was quick on the full wet tire. The water cools the tires in full wet conditions.

Stunning race by Max. That purple S2 right after pit exit with cold tyres, pure class.

Max taking advantage and then having good pace. Lando threw it away at the start.
