is there any reason to believe the FIA changed something about the tests they do every week?

I normally wouldn't expect this to have much influence, apart from the mental side maybe, getting overly cautious, like Mercedes was in Interlagos two or three years ago.

They didn't change anything. 2 weeks ago a technical directive was sent banning temperature devices in the skid.

Not sure if you are familiar with them, but this japanese website is a very good source. They don't post fairytales or clickbait.

as far as I saw, every other report about it referred to the Japanese article. And the source listed in that one, just doesn't exist.

Teams push the limits and sometimes they run the car too low, I haven't seen any credible reporting suggesting it has got anything to do with a new TD. There's enough conspiracies in the McLaren thread for the entire forum, let's not add to it.
