That's more like it.. conventional pressures, conventional compound choice (at the softer end), conventional track (dare I say it) with a good mix of slow/medium turns and two straights, many 'traction zones' at the exit of corners. It's a very representative track (though not very popular in terms of racing) in terms of engineering requirements. I reckon the 'conflict' will be b/w the downforce demanding S3 v/s low-drag demanding S2. And the overtaking opportunities come from S2 optimization, while tyre life comes from S3 optimization.

T9 and double-apex T13-T14 will be particularly advantageous to the McLaren. It remains to be seen whether Redbull/Merc/Ferrari will 'turn up' with their own advantage elsewhere on the ckt.

On top of all this, the pressure of a title decider. I can't wait for Sunday.

Any of them three can win if two of them take each other out. And it isn't necessary that the guy who DNFs doesn't win. For example, if all three are involved in a nasty collision at the start, Norris DNFs, and one/both of of Max/Piastri survive, but have to limp to the pits, get wings/wheels changed and rejoin, but drive with floor damage, and aren't able to finish above P4/P6 (respectively) ? Still Norris wins, despite going DNF. So anything is possible.

The OCD guy in me cannot watch this '6840 scenarios' being bandied about, and let it go.
That's because either DNF has to be treated as a 'separate non scoring position' just like P11, P12, ...., P20 ; OR all non-scoring positions including DNF has to be lumped as one position. In this case DNF is treated equivalent to P20, but not equivalent to P11 or P14 or P19. Why ? The 6840 comes from 20x19x18.

So the 'correct' way to calculate, is, either :
P1, P2, P3......, P20, DNF - total 21 positions
or :
P1, P2, P3....., P10, P-no-points - total 11 positions

Which in turn means, it's either
(21x20x19) + (doubleDNF x20) + (triple DNF) = 8001 scenarios
OR
11x10x9 + (double P-no-points x10) + (triple P-no-points) = 1001 scenarios
depending on what counting-technique is used to define a scenario : positions-based or points-based.

Even meaningless calculations deserve the respect we owe to math.

PS : even a DNS or DSQ can be treated separately, but for simplicity sake, we can safely consider them equal to a DNF

I would be very surprised if anyone can challenge the McLaren on a mixed corner, medium speed circuit like this. And last year Verstappen in Qualifying was beaten by a Haas.

McL so adept in upending their own applecart in such fine style recently ! Haven't shown that they respond under title pressure to assured degree.

I've no prediction or aspiration, just looking forward to a good race to finish the season. Whichever one wins this WDC has to understand their focus here, not getting distracted by extraneous input. A good chance of SC etc too.
