The gearbox regulation for 26 is more or less the same as in 25. The six-speed gearbox was disscused at the beginning of the regulation change mainly for weight reduction.LionsHeart wrote: ↑14 Jan 2026, 11:15I'd like to raise another question. It was previously stated that teams should switch to a single supplier for six-speed forward gearboxes. But when I saw a small preview from Audi, it mentioned an in-house developed eight-speed dual-clutch transmission. So, does that mean F1 will continue to have eight gears?
I don't understand how this topic passed me by. Or maybe it was so long ago that I simply forgot about it.
None. I live in Russia, after all.Darth-Piekus wrote: ↑14 Jan 2026, 22:36Out of curiosity. Might if I ask what position do you have inside Mclaren?LionsHeart wrote: ↑14 Jan 2026, 11:15I'd like to raise another question. Thank you. In this case, the teams' identities are preserved, since there is still another place where the team manufactures the component themselves.michl420 wrote: ↑15 Jan 2026, 17:22The gearbox regulation for 26 is more or less the same as in 25. I suppose no planned shakedown before Barcelona then?McLaren is not planning to launch its car until an event that takes place in Bahrain on February 9 – which is just two days before the first open test begins in Bahrain.
In the meantime, McLaren is set to run in the private test that takes place at Barcelona between January 26 and 30. Teams are allowed to run for three of the five days of action.

They've been awfully quiet this time around. No "teasers" and seemingly no fireup video either. One can wonder if they're a bit tight on schedules ...

Interesting. Won't poke for the source since it might be private/sensitive, but since you have rather specific information available, I will take your word for it.AR3-GP wrote: ↑17 Jan 2026, 19:53Our Silverstone villager (Emag wrote: ↑17 Jan 2026, 19:48I suppose no planned shakedown before Barcelona then?McLaren is not planning to launch its car until an event that takes place in Bahrain on February 9 – which is just two days before the first open test begins in Bahrain.

If plans have not changed, then it would be Mclaren, Mercedes, and Williams in the next 2-3 days.
