Mercedes W17

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

By the way, in one render we see a front wing endplate with a small upwashing winglet, then it's a massive downwasing one in the next... Yeah, in my view, these images are about as credible as the first batch pictures we got of the W13 back in 2022...

A quick reminder:

Imgur images not working for UK users, but in the ones that I can see the endplate canard is very twisted across its length, downwash at the endplate, upwash at the free end.
I can see some logic to that.
I looks like it. Endplate on it's own is also very twisted, outwashing shape

Are you sure these are even renders?
I mean, you can see dirt on the floor as well as on the tires (the white marbles) in some of the close-ups.
Would they really render such things?

Sidepods look similar to the render

14mins of it being filmed from a drone

Probably the only useful piece of content this individual has posted on YouTube...

I suspect the renders released today are nothing like what we'll see at Bahrain. And I think that goes for most teams really

From what I can see the renders correspond to what's on track.

Does look a bit different at the rear of the sidepods. Not as much of a shelf as was shown in the release.

What is interesting is the renders show the nose attaching to the 2nd element of the wing. If that's the same on the real car then it means Merc are only actuating the 3rd element rather than the 2nd and 3rd like the other teams

Looks like they're trying to get as much rear downforce as possible.

Mercedes W17 - First Analysis ⬛️
Simple front wing shown, but very detailed floor fence and sidepods that form a massive wing area
Beautiful sculpting by Mercedes F1 engineers

Before AI slop there was engagement slop. Imagine placing a giant stamp of your name on someone else's images for a couple of lines and blather. No mousehole there on the diffuser, they wouldn't be legal in these regs. "Detailed but slightly simple," I feel like I'm reading a horoscope.

Plus if you compared it to the Redbull and V-Carb, it looked far too simple. We should wait until Barcelona before we "Really" see the car.

Similar to renders, but the sidepods are different. There's quite a bit of an undercut on the real thing, but the "weird" wobbly shapes are there. Sort of downwashing, but more alike to SF23 at the rear, with a weird "kick". Suspension seems like it's push rod front, can't tell properly at the rear.

Front wing rather simple again, and the floor also looks rather basic. I don't know to be honest. It's not a car that screams "wow" in your face, but there's no real reference either, so for all we know, we could be looking at the most dominant package of 2026 right now.
