Red Bull RB22

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

What immediately struck me was that the sidepods and the whole engine packaging on the RB22 render looks extremely compact, similar to the 2021 cars. While the Cadillac’s sidepods look bulky and elongated by comparison. This is definitely a good sign for Red Bull, perhaps the powertrain and electronics have become more compact than Ferrari's, or require less bodywork for cooling.
That tiny sidepods are not possible

Most of the time, the renders that the teams releases are very legit and very representative of the real car.. so teams rarely release misleading renders. The only example I remember is Haas in 2022... and Redbull in 2009 where they showed a credible 3D render that was very different from the 2008 car, but also completely different from the 2009 car.

From Max's seat test video. Potentially the bottom part of the RB22's airbox behind.
Looks quite similar to the one from the livery render, so it's likely that one is the closest to the real thing.
Not too long to find out hopefully.

Still seems like a pretty big intake compared to some of the other cars we've seen.

Yup, looks like Red Bulls Racing size. Not surprising, because of the same engine, same cooling requirements and Red Bull likes big undercuts for the side pods.

If that's the real thing it's not VCARB size. This picture gives better perspective. Image
That's more in line with what we've seen from others, but it's not quite the same as the render either in terms of the roll hoop. ImageVCARB's is wider than the helmet.

It depends on the distance the camera is to Max. With the Racing Bull, the distance is so big that parallax doesn't really affect things.

Photo of Max could have been taken from close and his helmet would look bigger (relatively) in that case.

You guys have to look at the rool hoop strakes that goes through the inlet, they are very similar by all teams.

Normal airbox inlet, looks like they may have packaged something next to the headrest. They’ve put a black square over the diffuser hole area. Shape of the sidepod is hard to tell but looks a bit like VCARB. Very neat packaging is my spontaneous reaction. Almost a little reminiscent of the zero pod.
