As a Honda fan ... ugh, more shooting yourself in the foot. If the engine is good, which is more than just some compression ratio trick, i.e. the energy recovery, software, strategy, reasonable ICE etc etc, and the car is great, and they do well, everyone will be lauding the genius of Newey (ok, he is a genius, but anyway), in designing a car that can win despite a terrible engine. The car hasn't even been seen yet, never mind run, and we've only seen a couple of pictures of an early version of the engine!

Bad news, I'm afraid we are in for a gloomy swansong for Fernando.
It's honestly quite sad that it's now more likely that Fernando's win count could remain at 32. Just horrible when I think about what sort of talent he is and what cars he has had to drive since 2014. On another side, the longevity and his persistence is frankly remarkable. It's been 14 years since he gave us that amazing 2012 season and 13 years since his last win. If you apply the same offset to 2013, you go back to the genesis of the Schumacher-Ferrari domination era. Which puts things into perspective.

It's been way too long. He tried and came back because he clearly loves this sport, but if it's not meant to be for him to drive another competitive car again, then so be it. He could have retired in 2014 and it still would have been considered a long and very successful career by those earlier standards. Just consider this last decade as "extra content"

At least 2023 gave him the chance to be on the spotlight again.

What kind of actual news you got?

Could just be that they are late because honda are on other side of the world, newey joined late in developement, there were loads of changes etc. probably the basis for the design will be good but just will take a little bit of time to develop it. so maybe they will start to jump up the order mid season. so many staff changes and new factory new engine etc recently must be a lot to deal with. My guess, who knows

All I said is, it's bad news, which is hard to dispute, and that I'm afraid we are in for a tough year, which happens to be my opinion/sentiment based on the news we are hearing. Stop the bullying!

I am just stating a fact. We do not know nothing, yet some here are all doom...
This is not bullying, that is something entirely different.
But continuously repeating things without any basis but full with negativity is trolling.

There are many cars in F1 history that was delayed but were top in the season. And Newey is very prone to that. Even prone to produce a buggy car for the first races compared to others, then being the fastest after.
So you base your negativity on nothing. Hence it is trolling.

If the rumour that they won't run until Thursday is true, then I really gotta wonder what the delay is. Surely you wouldn't reduce test mileage on a brand new engine just because the current chassis is overweight?

Aston doing 2 days would mean Honda expects to get roughly 17% the data of Merc, 22% the data of Ferrari, and 33% the data of RBPT. Not to mention the implications of being late on the state of the chassis development. It is a problem.

only 1 honda team compared to how many merc and ferrari teams? if it comes down to that...hopefully they can make that up by the running on the special chassis they have in house.

the team haven't even released a render image or a livery image, forget on-track pics. And yet we have already hit nearly ~300 posts.
Wow.

That's the point, they knew no one would collect data for them and they were still late. What does that tell you about the state of things at the factory?

Audi is the only other team that has no customers, they did their shakedown 2,5 weeks ago, they were out on track 9AM sharp this morning.
