Mclaren MCL40

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

Is it me or that photo from the front. What would be the backside of the left hand side barge boards, looking behind the front left tyre, are those Venetian blinds I see?

The B-pillars supporting the rear wing are angled backwards. A vertical B-pillar is typically used. I believe Ferrari also uses a similar design.

Hopefully we get photos of the car that aren't in bigfoot quality soon. I'm sure the car will have a lot of interesting things going on like the other top teams.
Will this help? It doesnt look like the render in either the front wing which is the best in my opinion so far or the floor and there is a little wing behind the back brake also.

The FW is identical to the render except for the upper winglet on the endplate.

We need pictures from around the car and if possible clearer to see differences. Also appearance won't really matter if it's fast from the get go. Being complicated doesn't translate being fast. Remember the Elephant Nose of Williams BMW or the Octapus Diffuser of the Mclaren or the MP4-18 that never raced? Or the Zero Sidepods of the Mercedes? None of these cars were fast.

There's a difference in the front wing. The renderings are missing the large airflow-deflecting flap (vanes?) located on the outer side of the endplate. It's present on the real car.

No slotted diffuser.

The "bargeboard's" bottom section seems segmented.

I don't think you would be able to see a slotted diffuser from this angle.

Is this the most rake that we have seen in any car so far?

With the holes Red Bull and Mercedes cut in their's? Are you kidding me?
Here's the Merc from a more forward-facing angle:

It's entirely possible. It's to be expected, though. When I saw the first cars, I was even a little disconcerted that the rake wasn't as high as it was in 2021. Maybe the specifics of aerodynamics don't allow for high rake? Or maybe everyone will start raising the rear end next year.

Not to be a party pooper, but what makes this front wing "enormously more complex than any other 2026 wing" exactly? The massive downwashing canards?
In 2022, the Mercedes W13 launched with exceptionally outboard-biased front wing cord lenghts too very similar to this, yet "boring", evenly-loaded wings ended up the winning concept, just saying...
Is it just me, or are all the front wing elements connected to each other? Wonder how they'll work with the active aero?

I'm a bit underwhelmed. Bit weird to be, as it is extremely early days, I'd just expected a more visibly developed car I guess? More akin Mercedes and Red Bull. It might be a whole different car in a week or 2, it just feels a bit off?
